Do you clean them yourselves or do you have them done? Do you rent a shampooer, or do you own one?

I have mine cleaned by a guy once a year- he does a great job and is priced right. All my family and friends use him. He told me that cleaning your carpets too much is actually a bad thing and ruins the carpet.
I personally do not think those carpet steamers really work.

I clean them myself. We own a cleaner. I clean them when they are dirty, about every six months or if a kid or animal vomits I use it then. Big help there. I don't like the idea of renting one, other peoples germs. I like to be able to clean them myself. I think it is to expensive to hire someone to do it.

I also own one. It is not as good as the guy who comes in to me, but at the same time, it gets it done for those in-between moments! I have a cat, a puppy, six kids, and a baby I keep fulltime. I only do them every 4 months or so, but by then, I HAVE to do it!!!
What type do you own, happyme? I have a Hoover Steamvac with 5 rotating brushes that spin while cleaning, and it also has an automatic, attached hand held for stairs, furniture, etc. My mom bought it, used it twice, and decided it hurt her shoulders too much to do it herself. She paid $450 for it...and gave it to me!!! I was thrilled!

Well since dh is a Carpet Cleaner full time we do it about every 3-4 months! ANd we live in an apartment. We just want to make sure that we get our full deposit back when we move! When we live in the house we will do it just as much though. But it saves us a load of money having him do it. He brings the truck home and does it with the professional equipment. Then he will usually do my parents and his moms the same weekend.

I don't have one that nice, I have a bissel steamer. It was cheaper and I can only do carpets. Next one I would like to get for furniture too, and the car.

Rarely. Maybe once a year. I just rent a rug doctor. It is pretty cheap. I would like a small cleaner though for spots and furniture.

I have a hoover steam vac. It is nice to have your own especially if you have a nasty accident. I like to clean the carpets every couple months. We take our shoes off inside but the dog drags a lot of dirt in.

We have all original hardwood throughout, except in the kids playroom. We usually rent the rug doctor machine, or use my sister's Hoover Steam clean, and clean the carpet quarterly but I'm really picky about cleaning carpet.
