Ask:
How are you ladies doing with the envelope system and budget. Are there any newbies trying it out like me?
I have had a good few days, it feels good paying in cah wherever i go and it really makes me think wether i need something or not. I went to costo and bought, just banana's ($1.30!). Gave dh his money for the week and he seems to have stuck to it so far, still a long way to go till Friday.
Now a question to blessed-of-6, what do you do if you have money left over in a category? do you put it in savings and start a new week or keep it in there.
Answer:

You can choose which way to do it. I usually leave mine in the same envelope if it is for a bill. If it is for groceries, or a frivilous kind of thing, put it in savings! The reason I leave it in the envelopes for the first part is 1. The next month bill might be higher, ie. power and 2. After a while, I will have a chunk built up in there that we actually put into a family trip. That way, I don't budget that..but after a while of saving, we get one. Make sense? If it is for a frivolous envelope, though, you are BOUND to go ahead and spend it the next month!!

You got out of Costco with only bananas??? You should get some award or something for that accomplishment alone!!!
Man oh Man the envelopes are great but they keep you honest!! Almost all my envelopes are empty except for medical - does starbucks count as a medical expense??!!
It's only 3 more days till DH's payday and refill the envelopes, but it has made me more creative with food in my pantry and my schedule (also to cut down on gas since that envelope is empty too!!) I sure wish I had some extra this time - but expenses for mom's bday party have eaten up all my "extras"!
I'm loving this accountability - I am glad we are doing it. Even DH is co-oporating this time!!!

I'm doing pretty well. I haven't been out shopping. I wanted to go to Walmart today, but I just didn't have the money. I have 60.00 to last me until the 15th of next month. I have gas in my tank, and the kids have to get their hair cut and that' 6 each, been calling around. I still have some tweaking to do. I did go to BJs and PAID CASH for it.

I went over in my grocery budget - but there were good sales and I used $$$ that I had made at a garage sale that I did earlier this month. Everywhere else we are doing good....
