What does your toddler do?

Ask:
I'm always asking myself...."is this normal?" I mentioned in a previous thread that I drive myself crazy because I don't know what is "normal." Before my son I was not around any other babies or toddlers really. My son has no cousins, and most of our friends don't have kids or are too busy with their own kids the same age.

Anyhow....I thought I would start a thread to see what sort of things are normal that I find very strange sometimes.
Keep in mind that my son is 19.5 months old.

Here is my list....please tell me if I am being crazy or if I should be concerned!!!

1. My DS is obsessed with light switches. He wants to turn them off and on all of the time. Same thing goes for ceiling fans. THe first thing he notices when we enter a store are the "lights!" He points to the ceiling and says "light!".

2. My DS runs in circles when he dances to music.

3. My DS will not sit still for me to read a book. He has to be in control of turning the pages before I can read any of the words. But he will point to pictures and discuss what they are.

4. My DS will not sleep in our bed with us. He would rather get up and walk around!

Sounds like it could be one of my boys
Normal to me and he will do these things for sometime!
Answer:

Thats about right.

Does he try to drink out of the tub faucet? My daughter trys to catch the drops after we turn off the water for her bath with her tongue. Yet she does not want to drink out of her sippy cup.
Answer:

My daughter (almost 21 months) tears into every drawer, cabinet and closet she can find. If there's a pile of laundry folded near her, kiss it goodbye. She wants to go on and off the kitchen stools a hundred times a day. She used to say "poop" and I put her on the potty and she'd go poop, but now she just wants to tear off big wads of tp and rub it all over herself before clogging the toilet with it. I could go on and on. I must have blocked out the terible two's with my son, and now I remember why.
Answer:

Jellylou are you sure our kids aren't related? Except for the running in circles (because he can't walk yet), our DS does much of the same thing. Who knows what goes through their little heads, so don't worry. Your bb is just fine!

I agree COMPLETELY!

My 16 month old lifts up the toilet lid so he can play with the toilet water...

Check to see if your area has "Parents As Teachers" program. This program is designed to help parents recognize just what you are talking about - what is developmentally normal and how do parents help their kids develop. You can check out their website at 'parentsasteachers.org' and look to see if there's a program in your area.

Answer:

I can't keep our dog's water bowl on the floor, because Kat likes to drink out of it. I always make sure she has a sippy cup full of water on her desk (which is in the living room), but she wants the dog's water. Oy, vey.

She doesn't have much of a sweet tooth, either. She and I were visiting my parents a few weeks ago and my mom made some delicious blueberry muffins. I was in the kitchen, sneaking a third after-dinner muffin, and Kat followed me in. I offered her a bite, but she turned her nose up at it and demanded "Onion!" She loves raw onions. And dill pickles. Crazy kid.
