My d.s. age 5 just got his first pair of glasses a few weeks ago. He has blurry spots, astigmatism, problems with depth perception and even with glasses he won't have 20/20 vision. I volunteer in his classroom on Tuesdays and went to gym class for the 1st time. My son was so frustrated he started crying and saying I can't do it. He didn't get a whole lot of help from the gym teacher who I think is an a** and then he and the teacher's aide were talking and she said really loudly "nothings been diagnosed". She doesn't know that nothing has been diagnosed adn the 2 teachers shouldn't be sitting there talking about my son like he doesn't exist. I initially sent a note to his teacher when he got glasses explaining his eye problems and since the teacher's aide is the one who empties the folders I'm sure she read it too. Supposingly this is the first time my son has had problems being this frustrated. I sent a note into his teacher and I got a snotty reply back saying he was only acting like that because I was there. If a child can't see the jump roap then how the heck is he going to keep up with the rest of the class. At times like these I can see why parents home school.
Answer:
You didn't sound like you were asking for advice, but if this were my situation, I would bring in the principal and perhaps get a meeting w/ him/her, the teachers and aides involved. This is unacceptable. So many things are not behavioral! OK, there are some kids w/behavior issues, but they shouldn't discount issues.
