Ask:
Well, I have been trying to watch our electric usage since we had a bill over $220 in November. December- our bill was down to $198- not too shabby. Well, I almost had a heart attack when I saw our bill for this month was $402! I am not kidding $402- I have to call the electric company and ask them what is up with this! I don't understand how it could possibly more than double! The weather has been very nice the earlier part of the month and we barely ran our radiator heaters! Sorry for the vent, I am just so disgusted right now!
Answer:
I would definitely call them! It could very well be that they read it wrong. Hope it gets straightened out.
Answer:
Wow that is high. Did they raise your rates? I have high electric here and when they raised ours we only went up buy 50dollers. My last bill was only 220. We heat two rooms with electric and plug in one vehicle But even in the summer with no air or lights on ours will run around $100 a month.
Answer:
I would call them. It sounds likes they "estimated" the previous month's bill, and then did an "actual" read this month and that's why it's so high. They estimated wrong. Hope it works out in your favor!
Answer:
I just got of the phone with the electric company- the lady was trying to explain to me the rates went up this month- i told her that our rates went up already in November when we received the notice that the rates would be going up after the first of the year. She asked if we used electric heaters and I told her that we did but- not until 2 weeks ago (it was warmer than usual! ) and there is no way that it would of double in a 2 week period. She had me go outside and look at my meter and asked me to read off the numbers- of course that was confusion- my 2nd # was exactly on the 5 and she told me it is really 4 not 5- the guy read it wrong and she went through and redid my bill- a nice $193! So in reality I did save $5 on my electric bill- Yippeee!!!!
Answer:
I am so glad the bill worked out to be ok when you called Great job getting your bill down!

Answer:
man I am still learning how to reasd the thing. I can what till the digital one.
Answer:
Oh Thank GOODNESS!! I woulda flipped out too! I do know that the prices increased, but thats insane! I'm so glad you called and got it straightened out.
Answer:
After reading this thread I was afraid to open my electric bill since our company announced a rate increase for the new year too. I did not receive the shock you did though. I have had a similiar experience when we moved and I received the final electric bill for six days of service and it was six hundred dollars. I pointed out the woman on the phone that it really was impossible that an empty house with no appliance left plugged in used that much power in six days.
