Ask:
Ds had a mitten with a hole in it. This is embarassing, but my first thought was to pitch it in the trash!
But then thought of my newly frugal ways and got out a needle and thread. Ds, 5, eyes got wide as saucers as he said, "what are you doing?" "fixing your mitten" "HOW?" "With a needle and thread" After a minute it was done. I show it to him. He says, "This is the one that had a hole in it?" "Yes" "Where was the hole" "That's a good sign, that means I've done a good job". He smiles at me!

It's funny you posted this. I was going to ask everyone if they sewed things like sox when they had holes in them. I was looking at my toe sticking out the end of my favorite sock today and was wondering to myself, do I sew it or throw it away. I'm going to sew it!!!!
Answer:
My mom is a seamstress so anything she can't do at home she takes to work and uses the big guns. My girls always ask grandma to make or fix things for them.
treehugger= my dh literally shreds his socks. sometimes on the first wear. we have ruled out brand, shoes, etc, I think he's half ape when he walks. no matter what after a few wears they are hand dusters.

Good for you, Stormy! It is kind of sad these days on how our kids think that everything is disposable, isn't it?!?!?
Oh, and if you CAN'T sew, definitely RECYCLE!!! It is very rare for a piece of clothing to just get "thrown away" around here! If nothing else, Goodwill gives out tax deductible receipts!
