Ask:
Hi! my baby girl has an AWFUL diaper rash, it's horribly red, and it hurts when she pees, i think it even hurts to move or walk. I love her sooo much and its so hard to see her in so much pain. I have put desitin, and even hydrocortisone on it, and corn starch too, but nothing seems to help.
she has finally gone to sleep. its so hard for me to hear her cry when her little bum hurts
Please let me know if you know of something that will help my baby's bum!
Answer:
Is it bumpy at all. could be yeast rash although those rarely hurt. Has she eaten anything that is different/unusual for her? It could be a reaction to food, my DD had a horrible one - just a week ago. I stopped with the PB and it was gone the next day. Try simplifying the diet. Also, everytime she has a "diaper" take her to the sink or bath and wash her off. Try letting her soak in the tub. Also wrap her in a blanket or just let her run around without a diaper so the area can air out and there is no irritation.
If it gets any worse, and see no improvement after these steps go to the dr because it could be something underlying. i wouldn't worry, just try to keep the area clean and don't use wipes for a week.
If you can find some - get some Bag balm or udder cream (the petroleum based, not the lotion) - it has been the only cure to dd's diaper rash. hope that can help a little. it's hard to see our little one's hurting!
Answer:
I disagree about the yeast rash not hurting - both of my boys suffered from HORRIBLE yeast rashes and they would scream and cry everytime I would change their diapers. I would suggest treating as if it is a yeast infection since the other medicated oinments are not working. STOP using cornstarch as yeast feeds on it!!!! You will need to get lotrimin otc or better yet get your doctor to call in a script for NYSTATIN - with in one dose you will see a huge improvement.
Until then, if you have triple paste or buedruxes (sp?) butt paste to use as a buffer (it's the zink that helps) use that. Let some air get the the tush and other areas effected. Give a dose of Tylenol to help with the pain and discomfort.
I feel for you and the baby - good luck!
Answer:
this is what my doc recommended, sounds weird but works quick for us. Thake liquid mylanta, mix with any rash ointment or cream until forms paste and then put on rash. Now I have to warn you the first time it stings and they cry but after that it doesn't sting anymore. works in about 1/2 a day.

ABG.....this is the same thing that I learned from the DB last year. My nephew's little boy had diaper rash so bad! Someone on here suggested the mylanta, and it really does work! We made the homemade wipes (no alcohol....no burning) because the store bought burned, and then we put the mylanta in it and it helped so much.
Airbuswife......here's the recipe for home-made wipes, give those a try while she has the diaper rash too.....I just cut and paste this from the DB at the time and put into my recipes database for easy access. WIsh I would have put who the recipe was from too. HOpe this helps!
Hi ladies! I just thought that I would post my receipe for wipes. Hubby actually thought about putting the mylanta into the wipes when making them. I made one batch and they work great. DS hasn't had a diaper rash since we started using them. Let me know if anyone else tries them and if they work for you. Cut a roll of paper towels in half (I use bounty because they are the strongest). Pull the cardboard out of the center. Mix together 1 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup mylanta (I use the Dollar General brand for $1.50), 3 TBSP baby wash (Dollar General brand $1), and 2 TBSP baby oil (Dollar General brand $1). Then pour mixture over the towels in a container. Pull the wipes from the middle and that's it. I figured that I would post the whole receipe because there are a lot of new posters here. )
Answer:
Use some Desitin ointment in the tube, usually clears it up by night time, My oldest son had one from the change in water, he had all open blisters and the doctor told me desitin in the tube, put in on thick at first, it really works...
If it is Yeast, you need to call your doctor, I just went through this with EMMY and he gave me NYSTATIN cream, worked right away, gone in 2 days!!
Answer:
The only thing that has worked is Burt's Bees diaper ointment which they are now selling at Walgreens. It is a little more expensive but it is more natural and like I said the other creams didn't work. I would put it on if it looked a little red and I never had a problem with them having bad diaper rash.
Answer:
Try Desitin and dont have her wear a diaper as much as possible.
If its really bad you may want to take her to the doctors.
Oh and for diaper changes, just get some bounty paper towels and just use some water, no soaps. Wash her bottom in the kitchen sink gently. Dont use regular baby wipes.
Answer:
I second all suggestions above but wanted to add in, but baby out on the floor or outside if not too hot without a diaper. Sunshine and fresh air. Mom says it works to keep fresh air on the rash. I couldn't hurt.
Answer:
Poor baby...ouch! Been there and done with seven.....(only one still in diapers)...no don't put any powder down there...it can cause worsen the problem.
Good old fashion washing the bottom for a few days until the reddness, rash disappears. Those rash ointment works but don't use wipes for a while, just wash the bottom with mild soap..just give a quicky bath I call it. I know it sounds too old fashion but it works. Air out the bottom helps , like tacoma_ranch.
