Ask:
Wondering if anyone has had their kitchen counters re-laminated. I'm not even sure that's the right term to be honest. We have nice countertops; but they have some dings in them and a few scratches and DH wants to have them redone. I don't want to spend a fortune so wonder if we just have them re-covered??
Answer:
We did at our last home. It had black laminate countertops that were supposed to look like slate, so they were all bumpy, and someone cleaned them with something like Pledge so they were all waxy & sticky on warm days. Very icky. We had the laminate removed & new laminate glued on. It was WAY cheaper than getting new countertops & it totally improved the look of the kitchen. It cost $300 for an L-shaped counter, but that was back around 1994.
Answer:
I've never tried, but if you go to someplace like Home Depot I'm sure they would have an answer for you. It would be nice to reuse the base as well so it didn't end up in a land fill
Answer:
I never knew you could do this. Sounds very interesting and I will be sure to keep that in mind!!
I would compare it to the price of new laminate counter tops. They really aren't very expensive. I'll bet that the labor is more than the counters and if you can do it yourself, it may even come out to be less expensive!
