Ask:
Luke just had his speech evaluation finished and he did not qualify for services!!!! Ugh!!! He must have worked really hard on that!!! The special ed teacher had been pretty much certain he would qualify. I cannot understand a good portion of what he says and he will be four in April!!! The do want to re-test again in the fall as they think, if he does not improve significantly he will quialify then. This is the exact same thing that happened with my 1st grader. I was just hoping we could get started right away. Is it terrible that I was hoping my child would do bad on the assesment? I sure hope he qualifies in the fall!
Answer:
Happymom, everyone was surprised that my son didn't qualify for the reasons they thought he would (even the tester was surprised), but the qualified him for other things, like apraxia. I wonder if there's another tester that can be used, if your instincts really feel this way.
Also, have you tried to find outside therapy, which could also be more effective? Check to see what your insurance will cover. This way, you can get it done right away. The districts are under really strict guidelines, and any testing/results done have to be strictly educational, rather than social. But they aren't the only resource.
Answer:
My ds is 9 and now they will put him in speech. They kept telling me he was age appropriate. Now he feels bad but I told him it will help. Wish I would have done more for him. Fallow your gut.
