I'm really considering homeschooling middle school years

Ask:
My oldest is in 2nd grade (public school) now so we have a while to prepare but I want to be ready. Middle school around here is 6th, 7th and 8th grades. High school will probably be at our local Catholic high school. Any suggestions or words of wisdom? Links? Thanks for any help!
Answer:

my fav book I recommend to anyone is Mary Pride's Complete Guide to Getting Started in Homeschooling. I would read that first! There are tons of websites and books out there to support you. Try
When you go to your lib. ask about your local homeschool groups and info for homeschoolers.
Answer:

I second that book, I loved it. Be prepared to let her keep in touch with her old friends. Here in our town(in Michigan) they let kids join the extras at school like band, gym, art, computer class, sports. In 6th grade they only get to choose one elective, and their are no sports, so my daughter is taking band class, she will be able to take more classes next year. But she wants to go to school full time next year, this is our first year, I really wanted to catch her up. I was hoping she would enjoy it enough, and want to continue through middle school. I could have had her caught up and then some by highschool.
For Highschool think about what your child wants to get into, because another mom found out the hard way that her son could not join the Navy(or maybe it was the Marines) until he got his GED, because they didn't acknoledge his homeschool diploma. Of course most colleges do. A way to prepare for that was to have a satelite school do your accreditation. Some satellites you have to do their curriculum, but some let you chose your own I believe, and they just do the paperwork for you. This is all from a coversation I had last year, so it is as accurate as I can remember.
