Inner Simplicity - Road Rage tip

Ask:
I have a problem with road rage - I wouldn't call it rage but I get so irritated when I am going the speed limit and someone is just following me like they were attached to a trailer. I usually end up going *slower* to give them the message. However, instead of eliviating (sp) my stress, it makes it even worse.

Today when I had someone follow me very closely, I set my cruise control for the speed limit and did not check the mirrors, and figured if they wanted to pass me they could, that was their choice. I did not go slower, I did not constantly check if they were still tailing me, etc. I just went the speed limit. They did eventually pass me.

Of course, if it got dangerous I would have waited and pulled over if I could. But this guy/girl was just tailing me for the sake of wanting to go faster, not with any real intent of harm. So I just set the cruise and enjoyed the ride.

I felt I did the right thing, and was much calmer in the process.

I hate it when people do that too!!! I don't understand what riding someones tail is going to help. I'm going to try what you did and not let it get to me next time!

I do this too! I am glad I'm not the only one but sometimes I don't know how not to get in these situations. I'm so calm the rest of the time!

Once I read in an article that when feeling road rage, "pretend that this is a person in crisis on their way to the hospital with a sick child." I find it helps sometimes just keep things in perspective for me. But it doesn't always work.

That's a good tip! I've found that since I've had kids I'm not in so much of a hurry most of the time - so I don't get as mad when driving.
Answer:

I hate when people tailgate me. I had someone tailgating me in the big snow/ice storm. I was made enough having to drive in it and then with them being so unsafe. I seriously considered hitting my brakes as I was in a large truck and they were in a tiny car...I didn't of course!

I do find myself getting angry on occasion, usually if I've already had a bad day. But mostly I just try to sit back and laugh at people for being ridiculous, or I think maybe they have an emergency so I just let it go.
