Ask:
I will be attending three weddings this spring. I am trying to simplify my life while also saving money! When you have more than one wedding within the same year, how many dresses do you plan to have?
I have always been really weird about showing up at a second wedding in the same dress as another wedding. Should I be simple, or still buy a new dress for each wedding?
Keep in mind, I don't have any old dresses that are suitable....I haven't worn a dress in such a long time!!!
Answer:
Well, back in the fall of 2005, we attended 2 family weddings in WI,in a 3 week time. I bought 2 outfits for them. One was a dress and the other was a pant outfit. HTH. Is there anyone you
could borrow a dress from? Just a thought.
Answer:
If the same people aren't going to be at the other wedding's then I would wear the same dress and maybe just change up the shoes or the jewelry or maybe add a shrug to it. Most people aren't going to remember what you were wearing anyway! And if they do who cares!
Answer:
Maybe you could invest in a nice skirt/pant suit that you could change the top to. Wear it as a set to one - wear a sweater instead next time?
If the guests don't overlap tho - I'd probably wear the same thing to all 3!
Answer:
If you haven't worn a dress in a long time, I certainly wouldn't buy three! They'd probably just end up sitting in the closet.
I'd probably buy a nice, dressy suit. Then I'd wear it as a suit, with a pretty blouse underneath, to one wedding. I'd wear the skirt and another nice top to another wedding and I'd wear the jacket with something else for the third. I'd mix and match my accessories to achieve different looks.
You might also want to start now haunting some thrift stores. You might be able to find a summer dress that would look pretty under a nice suit jacket or a different casual skirt that would go. And you'll be able to find a wide range of interesting blouses that would work.
Answer:
What about gettting a skirt and changing the top? This would to better than getting a top and changing the skirt (since you will be sitting for a lot of it).
This would get you thru 2 weddings and if the same people will not be at one of them wear 1 of them again. Change little things like you hair, earring, necklace, scarf.
Answer:
Hmmm. Maybe get a nice black dress and use accessories to make it different -- or a pretty scarf or summer sweater.
Or try going to a store like Ross that has nice clothes cheap or Goodwill or even garage sales - that way you could get a couple dresses for the price of one.
Answer:
I would definitely not go with a dress, you are much more limited then. I would go with a skirt that has several colors in it so you can mix and match tops.
Answer:
I would buy one dress and then try to put a funny spin on it and tell everyone "Hey, this is my wedding uniform this year!". Most people are only looking at the bride and the bridesmaid dresses, anyway. Who will remember what you wore to the last one?
Answer:
Do you have any close friends that wear the same size? You could ask to borrow something (if you felt comfortable doing that).
