Tons of Work, Little to Show for It

Ask:
I spent this weekend doing so much in the house. I suddenly got this burst of motivation to clean out storage areas, closets, medicine cabinets, etc. The thing is that if you walked in my house, you wouldn't see any difference. You'd think that everything was basically the same. Here I worked all weekend from the moment I woke up until I went to bed...no earlier than 11 p.m.....and there is nothing to show for it.

Except that I know that I accomplished a lot.

So, list all the things that you got accomplished that no one else will really appreciate just by walking in your house. Give yourself a pat on the back because it is hard maintaining a household.
Answer:

It must have been in the air. I pulled out all the furniture and vaccumed under it. Then pulled off all the couch cushins and removed the yuckies and vaccumed. I even found a banana peal behind one of the couches...no one admitted to the nasty deed upon interrigation.
Answer:

Yep, definitely in the air. I spent the entire weekend reorganizing the girls' closet. They share a room (my 2 and 4 year old), so they also share a closet. It is a big one...walk in, even, but it is a square. For some reason, there was only ONE rod in there, and like a dufus, I never considered adding in another until now! So, I went and bought one for under $10 at WalMart, and much to dh's dismay, I hung it without him! He has a thing about putting holes in walls. WHATEVER!!! The original rod was straight ahead when you opened the door, and I put the new one on one of the side walls! Then, I found a shoe bag in the linen closet that wasn't being used, and I went and purchased a second one. I hung both of those on the empty wall left in the closet....and put the girls shoes in them, each having their own bag! I also bought a few of those cool hooks that hold well until you want them off..and then come off without leaving a mark. I used two of them to hang up the girls church bags and purses. This left the ENTIRE closet floor clean!!! So, I went further and got a rubbermaid box and put all their dollhouse stuff in it that is usually all over their room!! It is now neatly in the closet, where they can get to it easily and I don't have to see it!!! By doing this, too, dh is thrilled that I can take the kitchen center back out of the garage and put it up in their room again. There is space to do it now! He hates them having their play food and dishes in "HIS" area!!! I worked my rear off...and it looks GOOD....BUT, like you, to look at my HOUSE, you would think I slept the weekend away! I'm just gonna' bring any visitors up and over the piles of "stuff" and show them their closet, I thinK!!!!!
Answer:

Oka,y I want some of whatever y'all had this weekend!!! I just posted in the lost motivation thread, Ilost mine, I haven't done anything, it is taking everything just to do that laundry today and that is ONLY b/c it is Monday and it's what I do..... What's the secret?

And Jeannette....at least YOU know you did it! That's what matters!
Answer:

I cleaned out closets. My secret is I'm done with winter and am ready for spring Sad thing is, it will be chilly for a several more weeks.

People will notice your attitude being more positive. If you look at it this way, when you know that you have guests coming to visit, you will have more energy for them, because your house is more organized and only requires cleaning and not figuring out where to shove the clutter?
Answer:

Oh and even if it is in the cupboards/closets, it makes it so wonderful when you have to get into them and see that you can actually find what you are looking for!! I redid two shelves of my bathroom cabinet awhile back. It took about 1.5 hours and you could not see anything accomplished, but it takes only a small amount of time to go in there and find what I was looking for now!!!
Unfortunately, that did not happen this weekend and I did not get anywhere near as much as I wanted to get done, done. Congratulations for everyone who did!!

True too!
Answer:

Good for you!! All that matters is that YOU know you accomplished something!

I got in the cleaning mood too, I painted our downstairs 1/2 bath and bought a new mirror, towel bar and accessories. Something I've been wanting to do forever, well it took me about 1/2 the day and now it's done,Yeah!
I pulled everything out of DS's closet, packed up all the outgrown clothes and then organized by season the one's that were left. I put everything in bins on the top shelf and then I got a big mesh bin and put all his stuffed animals in it. It looks great and now I just have to start working on the girls closets! I swear, Barbies and my little ponies multiply why we sleep!! But my goal is to get their closets done(while they are in school ) before the weekend.
