Ask:
Hello. My 6 month old son has a lymph node on the back of his head that is about the size of a pea. The doctor said it is a lymph node and not to worry about it unless it gets bigger. He has had it for at least a month and it has not changed. Looking online I see that it is called the occipital node. he did have mild cradle cap but that is getting better. Has anyone else had this? I am a little worried because I have a family history of lymphoma but I know cancer is rare in infants.
Answer:
I wouldnt worry as long as it stays the same size. if it changes i would call the dr. just keep an eye on it and if it come down too it it's your child and if you're that worried about it call the dr back and explain that you would feel much better if it was looked at.
Answer:
My 6 year old son was found to have FIVE pea size to large peanut size "loose" lymph nodes on one side of his neck. I noticed it one night when I walked around a corner to see him with his head at a funny angle while he colored. I was scared spitless! Three doctors have now confirmed the exact same diagnosis, but I still check them every other day or so, just to make sure they have not changed in size. It IS a scary thing...but as long as your dr. is comfortable with it, all I can say is to pray and keep an eye on the spot. Big hugs to you...I know your worries well.
Answer:
Both my boys had these. I was so worried too but it really was nothing and they are gone now. They had them around that same age.
Just watch them like the others said. If you notice any changes talk to the doctor but really i'm sure he's fine.
Answer:
My youngest ds who is almost 4 has one on the side of his neck. He's had it for a couple years now and each time I have him at the dr. for whatever reason I make them check it. They keep telling me its nothing to worry about but if it gets larger or hard, then to let them know. It bothers me too, but I keep checking it and so far no changes.
