Ask:
Do any you have children that get nose bleeds? Are they normal? Took ds to the doctor on Thur and he has a sinus infection. His nose has been bleeding (just a little bit) on and off today. Should I do anything for this or call the doctor? Just wondering.......
Answer:
Last time my son had a runny nose his bled a bit on and off. Even with mine I find a little blood every now and then.
I would try to make his room more moist - and that should help. If it continues it won't hurt to call the doc. But I think (unless it won't stop) it can wait until tomorrow.
Answer:
I got nosebleeds on and off growing up and still get them occasionally. They're more prevalent during the wintertime with the dry air. It might help to put a humidifier in his room at night so he isn't breathing in so much dry air. It might also just be irritated from having the sinus infection. It's not generally something to worry about. If it becomes a continuing problem, then you might bring it up with his doctor.
Answer:
Yes, my six year old gets them frequently, as did my older brother. The doctor is not concerned. Both my son and my brother are prone to allergies. And we have lots of dry air here, which really does affect it. Ayr makes a gel you can put in the nose to help prevent them. It's perfectly safe (it's for babies) and is sold at drugstores and Target. The dr. says that those blood vessels in the nose have such thin skin that it's easy for them to rupture. I often go in ds' room in the morning, finding blood on his pillow or sheets. Disturbing at best, but he takes it in stride now. He always has a box of tissues on his headboard.
Answer:
I used to get them all the time and still do sometimes. I think it has to do with how dry the air is, like someone else already mentioned. Maybe some saline spray would help, too.
