Wife Swap....

Ask:
Anyone watch this tonight? I am sick to my stomach after watching that crazy family from Iowa eat raw chicken and meat. I honestly thought that the parents had some mental illness and they were harming their kids sooooooooo badly. Also the fact that they didn't clean at all.....gross.
Anyone else see this and what did you think?
Answer:

Ewwww! Isn't that child abuse? I think I'm glad I missed it!!
Answer:

Yeah, I thought they were nutty too. No way would I have eaten the raw meat, especiall that stuff that was 4 months old. Just gross. I felf bad for the other mom having to live in that house for 2 weeks. Also, how do they get away with not schooling their kids? What kind of life will they have? I must say that I was surprised that the Drs. said they were healthy and really had no hard evidence that living and eating they way they do is harming their health. I guess to each his own. To me they were way out there. I wonder what exactly influenced their decision to begin that lifestyle and what they were like before they began it a year ago. Also, the mom of that family was actually very nice and did try to learn from the experience. I thought she was a good sport and kept an open mind.
Answer:

I can not understand why they cant cook the meat.

If I were those parents I would be worried about the state takeing those kids away after the show.. KWIM?

Answer:

My DH was apalled while watching that show. I was sick to my stomach too.
I knew that Iowa family would be so sick after eating all the fried/cooked food at the restaurant.....I am sure that was a shock to their system.
My favorite part was when the Iowa woman licked the kitchen floor. WHAT!!!!!

I find that show eerily entertaining. It's like a trainwreck....you don't want to watch...but you HAVE to!
Answer:

I guess to their body it was good for them. My dd's inlaws raise thier food and kill it themselves--but they cook it!!!!!!! They don't seem to be in any better health for it though--which I think somethings always wrong with them--but thats another story! I wondered too about the not sending their kids to school. There was a family here that did that--thought school learning wasn't needed for life--and they got DHS on them and child is in school.
Answer:

yah why didnt' they cook thier meat?? That was GROSS!!! Dusgusting!!! I can't imagine how they eat raw meat, that is so unsafe! The animals that they eat are full of bacteria and parasites that proper cooking kills and gets rid of. How do they not get sick??

That was totally gross!!!!

I think that is exactly why they didn't cook it. They believe that bacteria is good for you, hence the no hand washing and no cleaning products.

I was just coming over to start a thread on this because I was totally grossed out. That said, there is something to be said for cleaning too much & getting rid of good bacteria & making our bodies unable to fight normal things. Still, they have just been on that raw diet for a little over a year. How did they get the kids to go along with it? I mean, some folks can't even get their kids to eat non-Kraft mac & cheese! And there are several good organic, all-natural toothpastes on the market. Butter & clay? Her teeth didn't look like it was doing any favors for her.

Some meats do get eaten raw - steak tartar is one. For arabic food, you can eat kibbee cooked or kibbee nyee (raw). It is usually lamb or high end sirloin. Personally, I have a hard time eating the raw kibbee because I just can't get past the fact it's raw. My best friend & several others in my family only like it raw. If you get it, you either order it from a very good arabic restaurant where you trust the meat is fine, or you go to a good halal butcher & choose the meat & have them grind it there for you. Still, I don't like it.

My dad was a butcher before he married my mom, & when I was very little I remember him coming over w/ a side of beef & slicing it up to put in the freezer for the year. I remember standing by him in the kitchen & he would take raw pieces of the steak, wrap it in a piece of bread, and feed it to me. It was a huge treat. It was very fresh meat, and I couldn't wait to get it. Now I look back & think I was like a dog begging for a scrap of meat.
Obviously, it didn't do me any harm. (Some of you might think otherwise! )

With this family, they raised their own animals & apparently butchered them as well. So the animals were not filled with hormones or put through the meat slaughterhouse where lots of things like e.coli & stuff end up in our foods. Their meat is probably safer than the meat we buy, but I would still wash my hands before handling it. I don't blame the dad for not wanting his kids to eat raw meat because, in the city, they wouldn't know where to buy meat that would be fresh & OK to eat raw. As far as her being so proud to not have had any formal schooling - where is she getting her info on a raw diet? Anyone do an internet search on that?
Answer:

I cant belive the uppety wife slept at that house....that was just totally nasty....that toilet ....heck I do believe I would have hit the woods before my butt touched that seat .....I would have wore socks in the shower.......wonder what she ate at there home...it never showed her eatting anything.....and come in after milking the cow and not wash their hands and ago right into cutting their chicken up.....grosssss.....I thought that that dad was going to hurl when he ate that 4 month one meat ....lol...this one wasnt the best show though....it should have showed her scrubbing the house down and making it sooooo spotless...you would have thought the family would have ordered a salad or someting if they was really concerned about the meat being cooked.
