A suggestion for any extra cash from your income tax returns....

Ask:
A lot of us will have some extra this time of the year with income tax returns. I just wanted to take a minute and remind everyone to check their carseats for expiration dates, weight limits, etc. to make sure your child is in the safest carseat possible! My dh and I put buying another of the Sunshine Kids up to 80 pound carseats at the top of our "to do with our income tax return" list!!! Our 6 year old is already in the up to 65 pound one, and this will put our 4 year old in one, too. She is just now hitting 39 pounds...so perfect timing. That leaves us with just one more to buy...and hopefully MaryGrace won't hit forty pounds until next tax return!

Oh, I'm SO glad to see this post. I just thought the other day that something I saw said dd's carseat max was 40 or 45 lbs,, and I was wondering where you find actual carseats that are for bigger,, not boosters,, but 'real' carseats. We have a belt altering booster, high back thing,, actually VERY cool, with lights for her and such, but I do NOT feel she's actually safe in it,, I think, though she meets the requirements it STATES, that she's too small. I don't like the way the belt lays across her 'neck' almost,, or how she 'flops' when she falls asleep.

Answer:

There are actually only two manufacturers that make car seats with five point harnesses going past the 40 pound mark. One is Sunshine Kids, and the other is Britax. Both are expensive, BUT they are so worth it. They will fit a child until 80 or 85 pounds in the five point harness, and I know the Sunshine Kids one is made with a steel alloy frame..the only one on the market to be like this. Both have bonuses and a few minor negatives (heavy, heavy carseats, the Britax is bulky/wide, and they are expensive), but we have bitten the bullet and bought two now! If you look at earlier posts in the baby section, you will find a link to a video that breaks your heart, in reference to using a regular booster vs. the five point harness!
Answer:

I have ones that have 5 point harness that goes to 80 lbs that are by Graco (I think) The harness part is removable and you can use a seatbelt, but we never have.
Answer:

Can you get me the model number? I have researched this over and over again...and I have only ever found the two manufacturers that make the models that are five point over forty pounds. I would love to see a different one!
Answer:

I will have to go look at them later in my van or the car. We have 2 of them.
Answer:

I found a COUPLE others last night,, but I mostly found a ton that said 'remove the harness' after 40 lbs,, the seats were rated to higher, but with 'internal harness' only to 40 lbs...
Answer:

Apex 65 Booster Car Seat

Answer:

It is called a booster, but has a 5-point harness which we are still using for Quentin. It is hard to adjust the straps, but that's the only complaint I have. Consumer Reports rated them highly. We got ours at Target, & I'm pretty sure it was cheaper than the amazon price.
