How often do you disassemble and thoroughly clean your carseats?

Ask:
I HAD to do this today due to one of my children throwing up for hours on a long car trip home yesterday. I was completely grossed out by all that I found when I took the entire carseats apart (I did both girls while I was at it!). We do not even want to talk about the ick I found, much less all the GERMS I could not see!!! If you think about it, everywhere we go, the kids touch and pick up germs...and then we load them right back into the same carseats over and over again...and how often do we clean them??? For me, only at times like today, for the most part. This has taught me a lesson, though, and I am going to start taking the carseat apart, washing the pad and all belts, and cleaning/disinfecting all plastic/metal pieces on a montly basis!!!
Answer:

When it's warm outside and I don't have to bring the nasty thing in my house!!! (Except, of course, for the pads and belts)
Answer:

I don't do it at all. i have such a difficult time getting the darn things back together.

However i just thought perhaps i could take my steam cleaner to them. That's an idea.
Answer:

When ds was little, I did it about once a month. I really need to do dd's marathon, but it says it's not washable, even though I'm going to do it (in the reviews, a few people did, but they were careful and they advised not to do it too often). The biggest problem is how much work it is and also the fact that it needs drying time and I'm always using it!
Answer:

apparently not often enough...when we had the mouse in the truck a couple of weeks ago, I took them out. Once apart I found that it had been ALL OVER (I mean ALL OVER) the entire car seat. It was gross ~ and amazing where I found he could get too and what was actually in there. How does some of the stuff get that far down in the seat???

The car seats will come out far more frequently now!
Answer:

I vacuum it and wipe it down 1-2 times a month, whenever we vacuum out the van. They don't ever really get that dirty for me, but my kids don't eat in the car so that helps. one time when jared was a baby he has an explosive you know what so I had to pull the cover off and wash. What a pain that was. Other than that the only time I've taken it apart and washed it completely was right before I sold them
Answer:

Only if someone throws up, poops or other wise has some sort of accident on it!
Answer:

Only when he throws up...that is a must!
Sometimes when it is warm.
Answer:

I do it every few months when they are in the convertible seats. My 18 month old makes huge messes all the time. Her's is really easy though. The Graco Turbo booster is super easy to clean, and my 4 year doesnt mess it up.
