Ask:
Ok, this year, I'm going to do it. I'm going to plant a garden in my yard, not just in pots. My problem is, I don't have tiller. There is no way I can use a shovel (herniated disc). Is it too late to have my yard tilled for this spring? I've heard your supposed to do it in the fall, but I'm going to have to hire it done.
Answer:
ABSOLUTELY NOT TOO LATE!!!
MY FAMILY HAS GARDENED FOR WHAT SEEMS LIKE FOREVER...ALOT OF PEOPLE DO IT SPRING AND FALL.(IF YOURE TALKING VEGGIE GARDEN)
THE REASON PEOPLE SUGGEST FALL..IS DUE TO FALLEN LEAVS ETC-TILLING THEM UP IN FALL AND LETTING TO SIT THROUGH WINTER HELPS FORM SORT OF A "COMPOST" IN THE GARDEN SOIL.
i THINK A FALL TILL IS A WASTE OF TIME-MOST PEOPLE I KNOW "ONLY TILL" AT PLANTING TIME.
YOU'RE FINE.HAVE A BLAST-YOU CAN ALSO RENT MACHINES FOR A DAY.HAVE SOMEONE TO RUN IT FOR YOU THOUGH THEY CAN BE KIND OF A BUGGER
Answer:
We till things under in the fall, but it's not really necessary.
Spring is the important one. It will make your dirt nice and soft and easy to work with. You can rent tillers if you don't have one. If you have a disc problem (like me) have your dh run the tiller for you.
