My frugal morning

Ask:
After dropping ds off at school, I went to BP to get some gasoline. Dh gets a free $15 gift certificate every month at work if there hadn't been any accidents that month in their foundry. He doesn't like BP ( ) to me free gasoline is free! So I used to certificates and filled up for FREE!

Then I went to the UPS store and mailed something to my MIL in Canada, not frugal at all. Cost me $25 to mail something to Canada, next time I'm going to give her her b-day gift when she is here, never mind that it is in October and her b-day isn't until March!

Then off to Aldi, I spent $8.00 on wonderful looking strawberries, grapes, half & half, and potato puffs for tonight's dinner. I've spent $78 for three weeks of groceries and only had to supplement this little bit - we've been eating out of pantry and freezer for a few months. It was so little I didn't even buy a bag to put it in (forgot one at home), I just threw it in my car and went!

Off to Marshalls, I needed a girdle for tomorrows fancy auction that we're going to. I bought a beautiful, silk royal blue dress studded with sequins for ds's school auction tomorrow night. I got it at Goodwill for $3.98! It was too small, but ds (5) begged me to buy it, so I took out two of the pleats in the back and you can't tell! It looks wonderful, as the auction's theme is Los Vegas (Lost Wages as dh calls it!) and I'll really look like a High Roller in this dress! I couldn't believe the price. Anyway, I got the 'foundation' on sale for $7.00 and Lord it just squeezes everything - whew boy I'm liking this!! Laugh if you will, I love this girdle!! Totally sucks the pot in!

I had to unfortunately shell out $5.99 for Hanes Pantyhose at Target. Marshalls no longer carries them. I needed it though, and was running out of time. Well, I go to pick ds up from school, and wanted to stop off at Panera and get a whole wheat baguette - they are wonderful and are only $2.59 or so for a huge bageutte. Well, I looked in my wallet - I had paid cash for everything today - I had $2 left. I told ds, "oh well, we'll have to make due at home" and we just used sliced bread instead. It was fine!

Thanks for reading about my frugal morning today!!

Our freezer is filled with ground turkey, pork chops, boneless chix breast, etc. We get meat when is is on sale every three months or so and stock up. I also have a really large pantry and had most staples in it. So when I went shopping these three weeks, it was mostly for perishables, or something I ran out of. In addition, I shop at Aldi, and Marcs for my produce. These two places are the cheapest we have around here. Lastly, we are a small family of 3, with ds being 5 and not really eating a whole lot!! I also have been doing 'substitutions', i.e. I don't have say, tomatoes, and I think "what else can I use?" so I look in the pantry and I have sun dried tomatoes. Totally different taste, but sometimes they can be subbed for the original ingredient. All these little things do make a difference! Oh one more thing we do a leftover day every week. This may sound like such a little thing, but it is a whole other meal! We used to be 'pretty good' about using stuff up, Now we are Really good about it. And we've come to the realization that every meal doesn't have to be a banquet. Especially on weekends, a sandwich with maybe soup and veggies and dip is fine for dinner for us, it is quick and easy too.
