20/20 last night

Ask:
Did anyone see this???
Answer:

no what was it?
Answer:

I actually recorded it by accident (but haven't watched it)...it was 2 one hour episodes by John Stossel on how people handle today's risks.
Answer:

it was just the reality of peoples fears and how people (tv shows/media) make money off them...for example...all the hype on child abductions...they even interviewed alot of kids(they almost all admitted to being terrified of this happening to them)and the reality that this doesn't happen nearly as much as people think...same things as safety issues...bicycle helmets for example-drivers are less cautious of cyclist they see wearing helmets and gear because they assume they are more educated to riding.(drivers more like to swerve away from someone NOT wearing a helmet)

Just alot of info....a really good show last night-made ya think on some stuff.

If you recorded it def watch it...worth the time to see.
Answer:

I watched half of it but lost interest because one thing I can not deal with is people who worry about everything. I understand sometimes you have to worry but people like they were talking about are hard for me to deal with. I have a friend like this and I dont know what to do with her sometimes.
Answer:

what amazes me is way they put info out there-and how that makes people worry so much -when the reality is that its not as bad as they put it off...truth is its played up just to make ratings or sell mags and stuff.

I mean lately all you hear is bad things happening to kids...I mean,I absolutley think teaching your kids "stranger danger" is a must...but it's not an epedemic that warrents the media assault we are get about it.

I know what you mean though- also about turning it off....some people are just neurotic(sp) to begin with.
Answer:

i watched it last night - i am the "rebel" of my mommy club because i am the laid back one. (much to a few's frustration - they do not trust their kids with me)

not that i dangle my kids out of windows, but i grew up in a common sence household and im glad for that. yes bad things happen but they also happened in the 50's, 60's and 70's too. we just didnt know about it because we only had 3 major stations - abc, cbs and nbc.

alot of my mommy group are obsessed with sexual predators, kidnappings, harmful sunscreen, and fairytales (yes you read that right) and i am not. i believe CABLE television is to blame.

fox news, cnn, msnbc, regular tv, court tv, talk shows, internet....they all tell us what to be scared of and make it seem that like sexual predators and kidnappers just came out of the woodwork in the 90's or something. talk about media saturation about bad things - someone should count how many programs talked about anna nicole this week!

a few of my friends are also nutzo with that online thing that you can see howmany registered sex offenders are living in your town. well about 10 of my friends were in big agreement of how bad things are and how they trust no one and i remained silent. after a while, someone noticed i was not saying anything and i just simply stated "im not afraid of these guys...im afraid of the people who ARENT regsigtered." half of my extended family still does not believe that i was molested as a girl by a famliy member (and he admitted it) and they still allow their kids around him...THATS whats scary to me!
Answer:

I just saw a few bits, but John Stossel is good at those kinds of shows. He likes to point out the silliness of ideas people have and how we blindly believe everything the "news" says. Sounds like I missed a good one.
Answer:

crazykelly.......I loved every word of your post so much I added you to my buddy list just to prove it!!!

PERFECTLY stated...
