Ask:
I am about to get what is left over from my Grant money at school. I will be gettting just about $1,000.00
Normally I would throw it into paying off credit cards, but we just did this with a large portion of our tax refund. I will be giving hubby about 250.00 to put towards bills, but after that I am going to do something shopping... but smart shopping
As most of you know we are about to have a baby, and we need some every day things. Would you/do you think it would be smart to stock up on diapers/formula? I would probably go to Sam's Club and get 4-5 boxes of diapers and wipes. And then get 10 cans of formula. This way we wont have to worry about it for that first month or so...
We also were just given a freezer and I am thinking of going and stocking up on lots of stuff at Sams, so I dont have to worry much about groceries.
Is this a good idea??
Answer:
Stocking up on diapers and wipes are a good idea and frozen foods too. I would hold off n stocking up on formula until after you know for sure what type of formula the baby will be on. Some places are picky when it comes to returning formula. Good luck with your decision!
Answer:
even be careful with diapers too, you may have a big baby, mine grew quickly out of size 1, but you never have enough wipes!!
Answer:
You're about to have a baby so, honestly, I'd SAVE the money. After the baby is born you'll know better what you'll need - and all sorts of little items might come up on the 'need' list (nipple shields, extra creams / lotions, co-pays on medications, etc).
Stock up your freezer by making double portions of your regular meals. That way you're eating the foods that the family is already used to eating. Be sure to make a list of what is in the freezer so hubby can get select something by himself.
Answer:
I agree to maybe stock up your freezer and kitchen good, but I would hold off on diapers and formula. You never know about size and allergies and such. Save the rest. I am sure there will be plenty of extras that come up!
Answer:
I agree I would purchase some diapers & forumla to get a head start but I would definately fill up your freezer to save on future grocery bills.
Wow what a wonderful gift of $1000 unexpected $$$ for your family.
Answer:
First off, do you have any cc debt still or is it all paid by your taxes? If you still have some then I would put it towards your debt and only save a little. The less debt the better.
If no debt then this is what I would do:
I wouldn't stock up on formula. For diapers I would buy one box of newborn, 2 boxes of size 2 and 3 boxes of wipes. I would put the rest of the money in your savings so you have it when you really need it.
Answer:
I agree with the ladies hold off on the formula and diapers. With my ds I went home from the hospital with loads of diapers and ready to use formula (which I only used for those late, late, late night feedings ) Also if you haven't already I would register on the formula and diaper websites they will send you freebies also coupons for your next purchase combined with a good sale and you will really reap the rewards. Answer:
I would pay our city income tax with $1000 so we can use our federal tax return for bills and maybe a new couch.

Answer:
If you have the 'big baby items', then i'd buy a bag or two of newborn diapers, a box of wipes, any other baby 'necesseties' you need (creams, infant tylenol, etc..) and put the rest into savings. I'm due in less than 2 mos. and all i've bought is a bassinet, a bag of newborn diapers, and I have been given a box of brand new baby clothes as a gift, and my mom is having a shower for me, so i'm waiting to see what i need after that.
I am going to buy a new carseat/stroller with our income tax refund though.. or a bit of it anyways..
