WEll WE did it! We used out refund to pay off some of the major bills that were hanging over our heads and the cause of instistant phone calls.
The deposit was made on Friday, and I already paid the capital one bill over the phone. The acct is closed, and we are DONE with that one. It will never go up again.
I had dh call the other cc that he ran up, and they agreed to a settlement of $1500, cancelled the card and called it even. SO that one is taken care of as well. He just can't be trusted with these dang CCs.
I had a student loan I defaulted on, I called them today and paid them in full too. It was in the middle of legal proceedings and had to be taken care of by the end of the month. SO thankful I don't have to deal with those idiots anymore. ugh ugh.
We are tapped out now. Those big bills are paid and off my mind. WE still have a few items in collections, but I think I should be able to take care of them before the end of March, so it will be okay. I also have 1 more Cc that I'm paying on, It needs to be paid in full before May 1 if I want to keep the card. Its only for $700 I think I can get that straightned out before May1. I'm praying anyway!
WE still have work to do around here that we needed the refund to do. Its ALL GONE. I havn't filed our state taxes yet, I'm kinda using that as a safty net and wanted the whole thing to go into the savings. WELL, now dh thinks we're gonna use it to pay for the bathroom repairs. Don't get me wrong, we NEED to get these repairs done, but it just frustrates me that we were so far in the whole, it ate our whole fedreral refund. He called me and said "Oh with my next paycheck, I'll start buying the stuff I need for the bathroom..." UM BACK the truck up MR.!! ugh, I hate dealing with money.
SO anyway, I got a pretty good dent in these bills and I think I will be closer to my goal of being debt free by 2008, so thats exciting.

Good for you! That has to be a great feeling! We are waiting for our refund and will be doing the same thing, paying off our cc's. It will be awesome to be a step closer to being debt free!! My dh is kind of the same way...likes to spend and not think about paying off debt instead. I don't know how to get thru to him, although he had gotten a little better.

congrats thats great we also used our fed and state return to pay off 1 cc and pay all the medical bills off..(unfortunately to have a bad feb and rack them back up)..so i hear you how frustrating it is that the money is all gone but just think thats one last phone call you have to recieve and debt looming over your head.....

I've been thinking over the past few days about how much we have been doing without because I'm trying so hard to keep our head above water, and feeling so.....empty! I can't even buy diva her first set of "real" shoes right now and she's walking (we have the Robeez that I got on sale, so she's not barefoot!) - and we usually try to make that first pair purchase a big deal.
Then I realized that I would rather feel "empty" and deprived and be able to sleep without worrying how I'm going to pay a bill(s) I HAVE to pay and how I'm going to buy food for the family (dh and I can get by on little, but the kids need nutrition!), than this sleepless hole I'm in. I so look forward to getting a brainstorm and getting out of this. I'm cutting as fast as I can!

Yes getting that part paid off really does feel great!! But I have to keep sitting here telling myself to breathe, it WILL be fine. I will have 2 more bills paid off by the end of summer and that will give me $200 extra each month. I plan on making extra payments on my car with that to get that paid off quicker. I'm just stressed right now because we HAVE to get the bills in collections taken care of, AND the last cc needs to be paid off by May. PLUS we HAVE to get the bathroom done, the faucets don't work, the tiles are falling off the walls, and the tiles on the floor are warped and coming unglued. ugh!! I wish that dang money tree would start to bloom!!
We did get a great start but its all so overwhelming. I can't wait to be done with this mess. My dh acts like its no big deal, we'll pay it, like its gonna rain money anytime soon. And he also acts like the bathroom is a priority, which it is, but we just don't have the money to do it. We plan on selling this place within the next few years and relocating to FL and no one will buy this place looking the way it looks. The kids have totally trashed the living room, crayon and marker all over walls that the magic eraser just can't get off. AND the 2 PITNs peeled all the paint off thier bedroom walls! The kitchen is extremly outdated, I mean 1970s outdated. WE look like the redneck family with the broken refridge and toilet sitting in the snow in front of the shed. I can't stand seeing them anymore!
