Not shopping for 5 weeks now

Ask:
I stopped grocery shopping just over 5 weeks ago now and I have to say it has been nice. I am one of the binder coupon shoppers (actually 2 binders 1 for food and 1 for household since I out grew just one about a year ago). We had so much food in the house it was just nuts. We started getting our current house ready to sell as we are building a new one on our farm ground and the thought of packing all that food was scary!

We are redoing the kitchen before the listing and I have to clean out all the cabinets and after 5 weeks I still have to much. The extra $$$ and time has been great. We still safely have enough freezer and cabinet food to wait another 2-3 months easy before shopping. I guess I never really though about how much food was in the house until DH pointed out the cabinets had to come out. It has been nice only getting milk and bread.

I found for me going to the gas station for milk helps me by-pass the other items I have to walk by in the grocery store. And the price is actually cheaper than my normal store on milk. Thanks to all you ladies for the wonderful savings ideas and debt reduction I find on this board. You are all an inspiration. And the daily declutter 5 helped a ton in cleaning out the house.
Answer:

I am a coupon junkie myelf....and do this 2 months a year....I do a month in the summer(usually whichever month my husband takes his vacation)and a month or 2 before xmas...
I get great deals, save a ton of money and get 2 months off from shopping...it's fabulous!!!
and it helps to keep everything used up and you don't have to stock up on great deals and then constantly be worrying about dates.(besides-it's not a bargain if it expires and go to waste)

I think this is cool.......good for you!!!!!!!!

Answer:

That is awesome!! I'mimpressed! And I agree abou tgetting milk at the gas station, its SO much cheaper, in my area, almost $1 cheaper! I don't even buy milk at the grocery store anymore, I stop and g et it at the grocery store all the time now. I can get 2 gallons of Hood Milk for $5!
Answer:

Good stuff!! We don't get coupon deals, etc.. like you do in the U.S, we have some here, but nothing like the stories I hear of about buying $210 worth of groceries for $37.65 or whatever..

Good for you for using up your stockpile! I hate grocery shopping.. so that would be pure heaven for me! lol!
Answer:

thats great you are using your stock you don't want anything to go bad either this way once you move you will have a fresh start!
Answer:

That is excellent! The past month or 2 I have been stockpiling slowly and your post motivates me! I want to be able to live out of my pantry for 5 weeks!
Answer:

Thats great!!
I try to keep stocked up on everything just because.
We didn't have alot of money growing up so I guess I'm a hoarder now because of it but haveing a stocked pantry/freezer has really helped us out in some lean times!! My parents always had a garden and my dad hunts so we always stocked up as much as possible as kids, it just stuck with me and I do the same thing now.

My grandparents were depression babies so boy are they hoarders but its good really because they get so little in SS that haveing the stockpile really helps.
Answer:

I agree stockpiling is great and can be a great help. I love getting a good deal and really LOVE free stuff. But like DH said the 3 1/2 cases of betty crocker corn muffin mix may have been overboard. Well maybe just a little. But it was a money maker and I just could not help it. I really hated seeing my stockpile go down at first but then realized it had to happen and I like having the extra room now as well.

I have also started seeing first hand we may not need that much food at the new house.
Answer:

I am so excited I still have not had a grocery shopping trip other than milk, eggs, and bread. That is it. DH is so proud of me. We are at 7 almost 8 weeks and it is great. I have a lot more time for the family and house work and dont feel like i am running around all the time.

If I had to guess I bet we can go another 4-6 weeks easy without having to buy a thing.
Answer:

Thats great. I was getting carried away with the stockpiling at one time, but I am learning that I can get a good deal and maybe only buy 2 or 3 instead of 6 or 7 of something.
