Ask:
I saw that posted on another thread, and I thought, "Wow....that is something to really think about here!" If we buy cheaper for the "now", is it not getting stains or dirt out in our laundry, thus making us spend MORE on new clothes, extra washings, etc? What is your opinion, and which detergents seem to clean the best??
Answer:
I have to say I really think that is true. For the most part- we always have Tide at our house (with Febreeze- smells sooo good!), there has been the occasion (before I learned about stockpiling) where we did not have any money and really needed to do laundry (I was working FT- just moved and preggers- i was exhausted!) I bought the cheapest brand at Walmart- it seemed like it poured out like water and it did not really clean at all. I found out that i had to use almost 2 caps full and Shout in order to get almost the same effect as using Tide 9without using the Shout)
With that said- I have to admit I don't fill up to the first line on the cap- usually 1/2 of that- it cleans just as well (and it helps make the detergent last longer). I only use to the first line if my DH is working on cars and his clothes are all greasy!

It is true. I use Tide in the laundry and almost never have to pretreat regardless of the stain. Here is a link that names the best.

Wow. That was a great article. Thanks!
Answer:
I never have problems getting dirt out with my cheapie detergent.
Answer:
I agree on the dirt part. I think my clothes are just as clean with the cheap stuff, too. BUT, I was wondering about stains. I think I am going to try one box of Tide Powder Detergent...as a test...and I'll get back to you on this!
By the way.....we had major dishwasher problems a while back and the guy who came to fix it found nothing wrong with the machine. He recommended we swap from the cheap ole' detergent for that and move to Cascade. We saw an immediate difference. I was amazed.
Answer:
I guess we don't get that many stains. Are my kids actually neater than most?
Answer:
I guess!! My kids get marker, food, paint, these oily spots, whatever on their clothes! I am anal about what they look like, so I end up giving a lot to Goodwill that I might could save, according to Tide!
Answer:
About your dishwasher.....I have a Bosch and the directions say to ONLY use Cascade POWDER and specifically not to use liquid. Don't know why but I have always done that and the dishes come out great!
Answer:
I do agree with this. I use Tide or Gain for the most part, and I have noticed if I sneak a cheap brand in there, well for the time I use that cheapo, my clothes don't look as bright and start looking dingy. I remember when I was in middle school, and I did a science project of which detergent is the best, and for me Tide was the best, so I stick with it. And I usually wait till it goes on sale for like $3.99/100oz bottle, and then use my $1.00 off coupon, and I'm paying $3.00.
