This forum is a great idea thanks Kim for facilitiating it.
Im interested to know how many of us are actually parenting alone (as distinct from having DH or Partners who travel or work away from home?)
Im (obviously) on the parenting alone list

Answer:
Me too! Even when my DS is with his father I wouldn't call what he does parenting! I would be interested in a single parenting forum - I think there are some topics that are more specific to our group.

I was raised by a single mother and throughout 90% of my pregnancy and some of Ryan's infanct I did it alone, even though Adam wa s"here". And because we just got married I technically wa s asingle mom until just recently, but I find that a little stretched if you ask me as Adam was really helping the last year or two.
But I know how hard it is and that there are special challenges that apply only to single mothers. What do you do if you get sick? Who can watch the kids? And the overwhelming feeling of how do I get all of this done with just me??
I've been waiting for this forum for awhile now and am so happy it's finally here!!!!!
I've said it before and I'll say it again...single mothers have the single hardest job on the planet!!!

I am a single mom with four kids, ages 11,9,6 and 3. My exhusband started having an affair about 3 years ago and left 2 years ago. I now have a boyfriend and he is great, but it is still not the same as having a father in the house. I will always consider myself a single mom, even after we get married.

Hey Amy,
Thanks for putting words to a lot of my fears--"What happens if I get sick, What happens if one of the kids gets sick, etc." I just can't afford to miss the work, and their father sure doesn't see child support as a part of the divorce decree that he needs to follow. So far, we have managed, but it sure would be nice to be able to take a day off once in a while.

I'm happily married, but my husband is a CPA so during tax season I deal with a some of the same stuff single parents do. DH is gone from 8 am - 9 pm most weekdays and works Saturdays from Jan-April 15th. So, I'm pretty much on my own with the kids except for Sundays. That's why I was hoping that you we could be a little flexibility of our definition of single parents and all be supportive of each other!

My hubby works about 2 1/2 hours away. He lives close to his job and is home 3-4 nights a week. We have a 7 1/2 yr old son and I work part-time so it has been a hard adjustment, mostly for my son. I have become very independent and can take care of things myself. I have developed a huge respect for single parents since I have basically become one. It is a very hard job! Disciplining has been the hardest part of the job. Also, getting a break when your spouse comes home at night is nonexistent. When mine does come home, he's tired and not much help. Of course, this hasn't been good for the marriage but it has been hardest on our son.
This board is such a great opportunity to share ideas and advice with each other! I look forward to reading about everyone's experiences!
