Ask:
I just threw away a ton of Roseart crayons. Yes, we do a lot of coloring. Yes, we could use them. But you know what? I just did not like them. They are hard and scratchy on the paper, not smooth like Crayola crayons. I noticed that all of us would go for the crayola over the roseart every time.
So if no one liked to use them, why keep them?
Then I went into my kitchen and ditched several more kitchen towels. They still work as kitchen towels, but they are old and faded and have done their time. I would rather have four nice ones than 12 worn out ones.
This is just one more step towards "if you don't love it, don't keep" for me
Answer:
good for you. You should freecycle or donate all your stuff though, not throw it away! I just read Tightwad Gazette and Affluenza so I'm on a try not to waste so much trip right now!
Any offers yet? I've been thinking about you! Wishing you were moving here so I could meet you sooner!

I have been trying really hard to do the same thing since we moved exactly a year ago. I was so pleased to get rid of all the stuff I had accumulated in the last house and vowed I wouldn't do that again. It feels so great to let go of things that just don't work for you. Just the other day I took everything out of the linen closet in my bathroom because my 18 mo. old can't stay out of there and he loves to fling the towels and washcloths all over the upstairs. I decided I would tackle that by emptying the whole thing (alas, it didn't solve the problem since he just moved on to our nightside tables, but that is another thread for the baby section ). I kept 10 towels that were my nice monogrammed ones and I gave all the others away. I had 30 something towels!!! I do laundry almost every day. Why do I need so many? So then I moved on to the boys' linen closet and did the same thing. I really pared down. I ended up taking 4 huge plastic bags of linens to the Goodwill. And my closets look so beautiful!

My dd had a TON of crayons I just purged (Crayola, Roseart, miscellaneous no-name). Although not brand-new looking, they were still in good condition. Instead of throwing them away, I donated them to our local library. After their children's storytime programs, they always do a craft which sometimes involves coloring. They were very happy to get my dd's gently-used crayons. Just thought I'd pass that along in case someone else has a lot of crayons that are still in decent condition.
I've been doing a ton cleaning/purging/consigning/donating myself. It feels so freeing not to have all this stuff around anymore.
Answer:
I'm not a big fan of RoseArt crayons either.
If you really appreciate a quality crayon, try Prang brand. You'll never go back to Crayola.
Answer:
I'm HUGE on only keeping what we need or use!
Though, I must admit I would have kept the old kitchen towels if they were usable for dusting and cleaning bathrooms.
You could use the crayons as a an art project for the kids. Make stained glass windows. Shave the old crayons onto wax paper then sandwich the wax paper and iron with a warm iron! It is fun!
Good job on deciding to get rid of things that just clutter up the home though!!

Good for you!!!
I did the same thing this week and had some guilt over not donating or giving away. To tell you the truth, I'm going to keep right on doing it. If I'm going to be going to the Salvation Army, I will take the things there. But if they are going to sit in a box making my house look like a mess and be tempting for the little ones to get at...the items are going out on garbage day.
I took a whole bag filled with toys this week and am planning on making it a weekly event. It feels great.

Good for you! I did this a while ago, but I still have too much I think.. going to make this my Monday project.. figure i'll keep 2 towels per person, and my best comforters, a few sheet sets and the rest will go... anything worn or torn, automatically goes!
Thanks for the inspiration! Will be nice to open the door and not have blankets tumble out.. *blush*.

You know, this is how I feel too. I started yesterday with my spring cleaning challenge for March, and threw out a lot of stuff. Sure, some of it could have gone to the SA (and a couple bags and a couple boxes of stuff is in the trunk to head there) but there are probably 5 bags of stuff somewhere in the garage that were put there 4 months ago (or more) to go there, and they're still hanging around, taking up space. I currently get out of the house once every two weeks to go grocery shopping, and when I have a 2 year old that's fussy for most of the trip, I don't have the time or energy to go unload bags and bags of stuff to the Goodwill. I don't shop there anymore - I don't have the time, energy or money to spend, even there. One man's trash may be another man's treasure, but regaining my sanity is more important to me right now. Call me selfish, but at the moment, it's how I feel.
