I guess it depends on what they are picky about. My DD is pretty adventurous when it comes to eating. However, she does not eat mushrooms or peas so I just don't serve anything to her that contains those items. I gotta agree with her on the peas - no one in the house really likes them - so no loss there. However, I LOVE mushrooms. So, when I make something with mushrooms, I just make a bit for me and hubby and DD get the portion without mushrooms.

It has been my experience that most picky eaters like simple foods and foods that aren't in combination. So, a picky eater will usually turn up their nose at a chicken and rice casserole but they would eat all the ingredients if they were served separately. If that is the case, then that is what I do - I serve the ingredients separate for that person.

However, I have to say, we don't cater to picky eaters in this house. A child with a few clear dislikes won't be forced to eat that one thing, but they are expected to eat what I serve otherwise. My rules are simple. Breakfast is whatever you want (among the usual breakfast fare). Lunch is a choice between two or three basic items that I'm willing to prepare. Dinner, however, is whatever I have cooked. It may not be the child's favorite but it is still edible. If the child doesn't eat what I have served, then they don't get a substitute. They will just end up eating better at breakfast the next morning.

Cookie2 sounds like my own Mom when I was growing up! It was not a bad way to live.

My son is a little picky...though he is only 20 months. He really likes hot dogs, pasta with tomato sauce, pizza.

I tend to mix his veggies into his pasta or mashed potatoes. He LOVES fruit so he eats a ton of fruit!
Answer:

my kids would eat mac and cheese everyday if they had it their way!
But I also make new foods and if they are not fond of it the first time I try to make the meal again and reintroduce it to them and actually it has worked quite well for the most part...My 20 month old will try anything, she will eat tomatoes, mushrooms, even saurkraut, did I spell that right? ( I ate it all the time when I was pregnant with her)
The one I have a problem making meals for is my husband.
