How much counter space do you have, and how can you make the most of it?!

Ask:
I am lucky in this house that I have a good bit..but I know this is a common complaint on not having enough. What do you do to maximize what you have?!?!
Answer:

Keeping it cleaned off! I try to put everything in a cabinet or pantry to have working space. Luckily in this new house, we have lots of counter space.
Answer:

I keep all my countertop appliances on a shelf out of the way....I have very limited counter space...so that helps alot.
Answer:

The problem wiht keeping everything is the cabinets is that if you have limited counters that most likely means you have limited cabinet space as well. I have an average kitchen maybe even a little bigger and I still cant put it all away. I had to turn the hall closet into a a pantry.
Answer:

I wish I did have more counter space, when we re-did our kitchen we actually were able to add more which really helped. On my counters I have a Cookie Jar, Fruit Basket, coffee maker, papertowel holder knife holder and a toaster oven thats to darn big!

I spent the whole weekend rearranging my cabinets, when the new fridge came on Friday we decided we had to put our pull out pantry in the basement as it just looked way to crowded. Gave in and also had to put all my small appliances down the basement. Dh had brought home huge shelving units from his old job so now they all have their own spot. At least I dont have to wrestle trying to get them out of the big cabinet! Went to Bed Bath and Beyond and bought an 18 inch turn table thing to store all my cans, the rest of the shelf for the cereal containers. The bottom half with all the snacks. The only bad thing is teaching the kids they are NOT allowed to help themselves to all the "goody snacks".
