I need some help!!!!

Ask:
Okay so my three year old Haylee doesn't listen, can't even pay attention when I ask her something simple, is always bouncing off the walls, does she have ADD?

So last year I brought it up to her doctor and the doctor said they can't diagnose her because she is too young, okay fine, but what do I do with her. Even when she was a baby she cried nonestop and her doctor at the time couldn't believe it. Nothing I did would comfort her. So she get sugar once in a while and doesn't drink cokes or anything and she still tears up my house. NO matter how many times I put her in time out it only helps for a little while.

So if she does have ADD is there any kind of disciplinary actions that you would take compared to a "normal" child? She is almost 4 and I am going to make an appointment with her doctor again this year to see about getting her into school early so she might be able to adjust a bit better. She doesn't have any learning disorders, she's very smart, but if you ask her a question she won't answer you, she wants to do something else.

What can I do?

Thanks
Answer:

I am not an expert or a doctor so I don't know but to me as a mom it seems like something might be off. If you have a head start or early childhood development center they can do a screening for free.

After that ask for a referral to a child psychologist for more definite DX.

It must be very hard on you and stressful. Hang in there and let us know if we can help you anyway we can. You can even post you are having a bad day.

Good luck, April
Answer:

There are several REALLY good books out there for parenting a child with ADD. I would know because my son was *FINALLY* diagnosed at age 4. Until then, my dr. had put me off, too. At four, though, it was to the point that while I loved him with all of my heart, I didn't LIKE him very much anymore. He was a constant disruption to our house, and it wasn't fair to anyone, including HIM! The dr. agreed, and she sent him to a child psychologist who agreed, also. He has been on a low dose of concerta EVERYDAY since then, and he is a new child...an AMAZING child! He is not perfect. He does get in trouble now and again, but he can PLAY nicely, he can use his imagination, he can sit through meals, he can do anything I ask him to! For every person that fights against the use of meds in children, I would like them spend a few weeks with my son to see that while yes, a lot of people have abused them, for those children who need them, they are a God send.
