Ask:
Dixie Chicks were shut out of the ACM (Academy of Country Music) nominations ....and rightfully so, IMO...They have declared they are "no longer Country" despite winning a Grammy for Best Country group. SO why should Country music award therm for something? Bet they don't play nice about it either....
ACMs Ain't Whistlin' Dixie (Chicks)

Sure they swept the Grammy Awards, but apparently the Dixie Chicks don't fly with the Academy of Country Music.
Nominations were announced Monday for the annual ACM Awards and there was nary a Chick to be found despite the Texas trio's five Grammys for Taking the Long Way. The Chicks have won 10 ACMs in their career, including Entertainer of the Year in 2000, but have been shunned by the Nashville establishment since their President Bush-bashing comments in 2003.
While the Academy of Country Music isn't ready to make nice with the Chicks, the organization made sure the usual Nasville-pleasing subjects were accounted for, led by George Straight, Brooks & Dunn and Rascal Flatts.
Strait, who has collected 15 ACM trophies over the course of his career, notched a leading six awards this year, including the top prize, Entertainer of the Year. Strait will also compete for Male Vocalist, Album of the Year for It Just Comes Natural, Single Record of the Year and Song of the Year, both for "Give It Away," and Video of the Year for "Seashores of Old Mexico."
Brooks & Dunn and Rascal Flatts will face off with Strait in the Entertainer of the Year and Album of the Year categories. Brooks & Dunn are also contending for Top Vocal Duo, Video of the Year and Vocal Event of the Year, while Rascal Flatts is gunning for Top Vocal Group and Single Record of the Year. Brooks & Dunn will also receive the Humanitarian Award.
Kenny Chesney, Vince Gill and Tim McGraw round out the race for Entertainer of the Year.
While she didn't make the cut for the usually testosterone heavy Entertainer of the Year race, Grammy-certified Best New Artist Carrie Underwood is vying for five ACMs: Top Female Vocalist, Album of the Year for Some Hearts and Song of the Year, Single Record of the Year and Video of the Year for “Before He Cheats.” Underwood was named Top New Female Vocalist at the 2006 ACMs.
(It was a good day for American Idol alums as Kellie Pickler picked up a nod for Top New Female Vocalist.)
Other top nominees include the duo Big & Rich, who received four nominations, and Gill, Josh Turner and Gretchen Wilson, who each scored three noms.
The nominations were announced at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville by 2006's Entertainer of the Year, Chesney, and the duo Sugarland, who won for Top New Duo or Vocal Group in 2006.
"Whenever you get nominated, it's a reflection of a lot of people's hard work," Chesney said.
The 42nd Annual Awards will be given out May 15 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and will air live on CBS.

Answer:
They turned their backs on the Country industry so I'd say you get what you give!
Good for George Strait... he's one of my faves... be still my beating heart
Answer:
I am a country music fan. I loved the Dixie Chick's music before the whole drama. In one sense I can understand why they are being shunned, because of country's loyalty to there leaders. But on the other hand. I don't buy music for there personal oppinions. I still like there music. Hopefully one day they will make nice! Not so much for there oppinions on our President, but for the while Toby Keith thing.
Answer:
It was country that turned its back on the Chicks.
But I'm doubting they'll be crying too much about it being comforted by all the Grammy awards they just won.

Die-hard Chick fan...before and after they exercised their right to free speech
Answer:
Go George!!! I LOVE George Strait!
Kellie Pickler for new female vocalist??? I like her, but geez she only has one song out on the radio right now and up for an award already?
Dixie Chicks, i love their music, i just wished Natalie would know when to shut-up. Have an opinion fine, but use some brains and not say them on a stage for all to hear.KWIM?
Answer:
I've never liked country music, but I agree that it's country music that turned its back on the Dixie Chicks & not the other way around. Besides, there are plenty of "crossover" artists nowadays. I heard them do their "not ready to make nice" song on the grammies & I really liked it. I think they might be the first country group I might like. And I do like music with a message. John Lennon is my all-time favorite, and his music is very political.
Answer:
It's not so much the President comment that gets me; it is the Toby Keith thing and to call Courtesy of the Red White and Blue "Ignorant". At the time it was the Unofficial anthem of many, many soldiers and the ONLY reason it was released was b/c of the way the military personnel responded to it. He had said he didn't have any intention of releasing it as a single, just put it on the disc (kind of like what he does with 'bus songs' on them).
"Not ready to make nice" isn't a bad song...my problem purely lies with Natalie Maines, she doesn't know when to shut her mouth!
Answer:
Not being a country fan, I've no idea what the Toby Keith thing is & I don't know what the Courtesy of the RWB is, so I don't know if it's ignorant or not. No opinion on those then...
OK, I just looked up the lyrics to the song & read this article on Toby Keith, the song, and the Dixie Chicks.
I have heard the song. I think it's just a pretty lousy song, but I can see how it would be a "rallying" type song for folks in the military. I think Toby Keith is the kind of guy I wouldn't have anything in common with.

Ditto on this. The comments were inflammatory enough, but then Natalie Maines just couldn't shut up. She attacked not only Bush, but patriotic country songs (not just Toby Keith) and also country fans in general. Maybe she was doing it out of hurt or anger, but you can't expect the country music community to honor you after you've 'dissed them. I used to love the dixie chicks, but I'll never buy another CD. It is true they won lots of grammys, but what would anyone expect from the liberal entertainment industry. And while I'm sure they're sitting pretty for money, their last CD was no where near the hit their previous ones were.
Answer:
I don't think it is so much that the AMC's dissed them as that the Grammy's falsely rewarded them. Music is so subjective but I was very surprised by the Grammy nomination. I don't hate the Dixie Chicks but I just didn't see their album/song being worthy of that honor with all the great competition this year. I think the AMC may have a better grasp on the country music industry.
