Ask:
So i got offered a job working in a bank, something i applied for never thinking i would get, but as a recent college grad, i thought i may as well try to get a job in the real world. well i have a job now that is guaranteed 30 hours a week, but usually 40, and the job at the bank is temp part time for 15 hours a week... it may lead into full time which is why i am taking it... i dont want to be in retail forever... but my dilemma is i dont know if i want to work possibly 55 hours a week... i have to keep my job just in case i dont get hired on full time at the bank, but i dont want to miss the opporuity for a good job with career potential... help!
Answer:
I say go for it. The second job thing is only temporary, you won't always be working 55 hours a week. Although it's a choice you have to make. Just think of it like college. You more than likely worked and went to school at the same time and spent more than 55 hours a week between the two.
Think of the bank job as a college class, and investment in your future.
Personally, I work way more than 55 hours a week, so to me a 55 hour a week job would be awesome reduction!

I'm not sure if you have children, so that would be my first concern. If you don't, then I'd go for it. If you don't like it or it doesn't work out, you can always quit. It may be the opportunity you are looking for. Is there an option of finding a different retail job with less hours?
Answer:
Right now I'm working 6 days a week which totals around 53 -54 hours. It stinks!! I don't get to see my DD's very much at all. I have one day to get all my stuff done (laundry, etc). I get home at night, cook supper, give the girls a bath and go to bed. Not much of a life. So, I say if you have kids I wouldn't do it.
Now the upside is I know my OT ends in 6 weeks and I'll be back to my 4 days a week at 30 hours. There is an end in sight So, if it's temporary and you think you can swing it, go for it.
