Ask:
Friends, as you have read I am going to move from my beautiful, quiet, lovely ranch to move to SLC, UT for my DS to go to a school for autistic children.
My question, would you move for better services or a superior school?
Answer:
Yes, we had to move back from living overseas because of ds's special needs. It was a difficult decisions that involved the death of a dream and the rebuilding of a new dream but we'd do it all over again if we had to. We are in a great school now with lots of support. It was 100% worth the move.
Answer:
Althoug I don't have a special needs child, I would move wherever I needed to so that my child could receive the best possible service! My parents taught me to always consider the school system before you even begin to look at where you are going to live. I will live in the best district I can afford for my children, no matter what they may require.
Answer:
I've always said I could be happy living anywhere. Okay, so someplaces would make it EASIER for me to be happy, but my happiness doesn't depend on where I live. Additionally, I'd walk with bare feet through broken glass if it meant helping my child.
We've got the opposite problem - right now DD is in an awesome school. I can't believe how lucky we were to have gotten her in - and it is free because it is a charter school. However, hubby and I have been planning to relocate to another state because (1) I really want to live closer to an ocean and (2) it would mean hubby would have an easier time finding a job that would allow him to be home more. If we move, I'm not entirely sure we could find a school for DD that is as good as the one she is in now. She isn't a special needs child but do we stay just to give her this wonderful education? Or do we move in the hopes that we can give her a better family life and with the confidence that we can home school her if worse comes to worse in the community school system?
Answer:
Yes, without hesitation. Do you have to sell the ranch? Either way, you are getting help at this early age. That's priceless. The city will afford other resources, and perhaps you can buy another property to seek refuge in that is closer. I am so happy for his future with this! What will dh do? Just think, if this will help him grow up to self -sufficiency, you guys can always move back home to where you are now! This is a gift to all of you and you will adapt. Best of wishes, and I hope you find a nice home - there are some everywhere!
Answer:
Definately YES!!
I grew up with a sister who had Down's Syndrome and my parents moved to a different county, furthur away from work adn family just to get her into a school that was strictly for special needs children. She is very severe so the educational benefit was not necessary but the fact that they focused on each childs needs adn physical therapy was amazing!
I loved going to volunteer at the school and I also think that it taught my other sister and myself how to relate and treat others with respect and admiration.
Answer:
I'd say that we'd like to but can't...Sounds like switching insurance compaines would mean having to wait to start treatment/therapy, we just can't do that
Answer:
yes i have and i would do it again. Now my son is in the P.A.L.C.S,a charter school and we love it.I only wished we would have found it sooner. It's run by the dept. of regular and special education.
