Daylight Savings- does it help you?

Ask:
Does daylight savings make your life easier or not? I enjoy the longer summer evenings, but the time change is a big hassle for me with the kids. My kids do best on a bedtime schedule that the change always messes up. I dread it each time.

I think I would like it if it just stayed one way or another.
Answer:

In the long run, yes, it helps us, but the first two weeks are a bear!

When it is not daylight savings time, because we are pretty close to the border of Eastern and Central Time Zones, it would get dark around 4:45 and that DRIVES ME BATTY and sort of nuts!

So, we like it when it stays lighter until about 8pm.
Answer:

I don't know if it really helps me or not (supposedly it helps save electricity). I just dread having to adjust to the new time.
Answer:

I love the longer summer evenings. It does make it tough for the kids though, they think because it is still so light out they should be allowed to stay up.
Answer:

I think it's a pain switching back and forth, drives me insane.. and throws our schedule off for a bit...

Overall though, the kids love it.. more time outside in the evening..
Answer:

I like it- wish we did not have to seitch back and forth though.
I used to think it was a hassle wiht the kids- now that my oldest is 6 yrs old- I have learned that I just put them to bed 1/2 hr early for the first few days and the then fall right back to the normal bedtimes- it works for us

I have this problem too, I love when it stays light later, and wish they'd just leave it this way.
Answer:

I hate it. I have always felt that if someone wants to get up early on their own, they should adjust their own clock. It should have nothing to do with mine. grrrr

I heard a blurb on the radio that they are wondering if this "new" earlier time change is going to raise havic because the computers aren't set for it to be now. Could be just like the Y2K scare...we'll see.
Answer:

We in AZ don't do daylight savings, so no messing w/ the clocks. We WANT the sun to go down in the summer!
Answer:

I hate it. I hate getting up in the dark. I realise that I'm stuck doing that at least some of the time during winter, but really don't like to prolong the agony - or worse, relive the agony as I did this morning. I hate switching the clocks and my body twice a year. I think it causes all kinds of unnecessary stress. And I don't think it saves any energy - all it does is switch the burden of energy use to early mornings and individual households. For instance, I have to use the lights in the house again, whereas I've been showering, eating breakfast and getting ready for work in natural light for the last 3 weeks or so. I also don't like the really extended light in the evenings. I don't want to go to bed when it's only been dark for an hour or two. And that's just me - I don't have to cope with kids too.

Retailers apparently love Daylight Savings. They, and the confectionary businesses, were big lobbiers behind this extended DST.

Btw, I grew up without Daylight Savings, so I've experienced both. I wish the US would just stick with standard time.
