Ask:
I know it's much cheaper to do milk, but after reading about toddler formulas, they really do have alot more "stuff" in them than milk. What do you all think about this?
Is milk really better or just cheaper? (sorta)
Answer:
I think toddler formula is probably really good for children who are underweight and need the formula to get everything they need nutrition wise.
Answer:
I'm very "right wing" on this, but i'd go with whole milk and a liquid multi-vitamin that you can buy at any pharmacy... I don't like formula if there are other choices available..
Answer:
I go w/lexikatiesmom. Our ped. didn't think we needed the more expensive toddler formulas if the baby was getting a variety of foods. He also doesn't think vitamins are needed, unless there is a deficiency or it's too hard to get the food variety into them (keep in mind that throughout a week, it often balances out). However, I would make a call to your own ped. to see what they think.
Answer:
I haven't used them for either of my boys (of course, neither of them had regular infant formula either -- heck, Ian's never even had a bottle). Ian is 14 months old now, and is nursing 4 times/day and then gets whole milk with his meals (Quentin nursed for 18 months). That worked for us. But I think that the others are right, if you are concerned, ask your ped. if he/she thinks they would be better.
Answer:
We used milk after both of my kids were a year. As long as they eat good and aren't under weight why spend the extra money? Our ped. told us to go with 2%. I started to phase out formula around 11 mo. My kids were happier with milk and a healthy snack.
Answer:
Yep, I agree with everyone else. If your child eats a variety of foods there is no need for the formula. IMO they are just trying to guilt people into spending the extra money. My ped. even says that vitamins are not necessary if your child eats a variety of foods.
