Ask:
My four year old is not quite ready to ride his bicycle just yet without training wheels however I am curious to know at what age you start working with them on learning to ride it without help.
Just curious!
Answer:
I think it depends on the child. Our 4 1/2 year old is pretty close to learning. Meanwhile, our 7 year old is a bit fearful and is just now starting to learn without his training wheels.
The pressure from his younger brother will make him learn that much faster - we hope.
Answer:
Well, my 9 yr old has almost mastered it, my 8 & 7 yr olds haven't even tried yet. It just isn't important to them.
Answer:
My ds learned the summer before he went into 1st grade. So he was 6.
Answer:
5-yr old DD is almost ready. She simply hasn't had enough time to ride her bike over the winter. I start by lifting both training wheels as high as they will go. When the child becomes more confident with that, I remove one side. DD is almost ready to have her other training wheel removed.
Answer:
it just depends on the kid!! my dd who is almost 7 learned last summer!! my dd who is 5 wants to this summer but well see as she just doesnt pay attention!!
I taught my oldest dd on the grass where if she fell it was softer!!
Answer:
I do think every child is different. My 6 year old has been riding a 2 wheeler since she was almost 4! But she has always been my go getter and sporty one. My 3 year old has no interest in even trying to ride a big wheel type bike much less a training wheel one. She is a girly girl all the way and probably won't want to ever try. My 2 year well lets just say she would probably get on a bike and just start riding it! She is beyond adventurous it kind of scares me!
Answer:
Each child learns differently but we didn't use training wheels. I don't think they help the child in the long run...but that's me. Both my kids were riding bikes by the time they were 5. They both learned rather quickly in a few days...but that's their personality too. They want to do something and they just keep at it til they get it. We like to bike on trails as a family, and rode our bikes all over Europe when we lived overseas.
Answer:
My oldest ds learned last summer when he was 5(turned 6 in Oct). We did the same as Cookie2 did. The day that I noticed him riding down the entire driveway without the training wheels touching I took them off and off he went! Our youngest who will be 5 in Aug. probably will master it this summer. He is very determined to ride like his big brother!
Answer:
I am hoping to remove the training wheels this summer. He will be 6 in April. Hmmm maybe I should have dh remove them completly.
