Ask:
I don't normally give them juice. If I do, It's Minute Maid (light) and it's plenty watered down and only once a day with a snack if at all!!! They are already bouncing off the walls, they don't need any additional stimulant. Besides, they normally ask for milk more than anything, so I guess that's good ~ being that they are rugged boys and all. (Since hearing we were having boys, people feel compelled to tell me we'll be spending a lot of time in the ER so I guess I can safely assume the milk intake is a good thing at keeping those bones in tact!!! LOL)
Anyway, the reason why I ask about the juice thing is because I am a huge sugar phobe. I tend to moderate what I give my kids in terms of sugary snacks, juice, etc. HOwever, just the other day I saw a brand of apple juice called Orchard Tree or Tree orchard or something to that effect that had less than 10grams of sugar per 8 oz serving!! Yes it is sweetned with splenda but compared to the alternative, I am ok with that! Just thought I'd share!
Answer:
My ds is 8 and I have always given him juice. I consider the juice as a fruit. Ds only eats strawberries and apples. Not regularly though. He doesn't like fruit at all. I usually give him juice with dinner or maybe some when he comes home from school. I also have bought V-8 fusion. He liked the strawberry banana ok. He also tried the tropical orange and liked it but Walmart doesn't carry that one. V-8 fusion is cheaper at walmart than the grocery store.
My mom had told me that a dr. that I went to when my brothers and I were little said if they eat vegetables not to worry too much about not eating the fruit.
Answer:
My kids don't really like juice. DH and I are not juice drinkers, so I rarely have it in the house...so I'm sure that is part of it. I do squeeze oranges for fresh orange juice, but that's it. Well...the odd bottle of cranberry that I use for cocktail mixers. L.OL.
Do your kids want juice? If they don't seem to care, I probably wouldn't even introduce it - splenda or not. If they really want it, if it were me, I'd just get them regular juice. I don't like giving my kids anything the alternative sweeteners. I know they say that splenda is 'just like' sugar without the calories etc I just don't like it and I could be just wacko but I'd rather they had the sugar in moderation, than any kind of artifical sweetener. That's how I do everything though in terms of eating in our house...it's all okay, in moderation.
Answer:
I don't keep it at home typically except for OJ which my dh likes with his breakfast. My kids usually don't drink it though. My 4yo ds just asked for juice last week at the grocery store so an occasional treat it fine with me! I just make sure that it is 100% juice.
On a side note Christy - People always told me the same thing about having boys and in the almost 6.5 years of having boys we have only been to the emergency room once! And my boys are very, very active!

My boys are not big on juice, I dont push it and they dont ask for it besides an occasional glass of oj.
Answer:
My boys loves any type of organce juice. And I do buy them juice boxes (usally the juicy juice ones) to pack for pre-school.
And yes Christy, that's so true about boys, with my boys (5 and 3), i've been to the ER 4 times already, and two of the times, they had a hairline fracture on their foot.
Answer:
My 3 year old likes juice but gets a very limited amount (and not every day). I water it down at least halfway unless it's in a juice box and it's always 100% juice (except for the rare occasions when a grandparent unknowingly buys something like HI-C). My 17-month old doesn't drink it yet (he may take a sip of mine every now and then, but he doesn't get his own) and I'm in no hurry to start him. Our pediatrician told me we were better off not even introducing it.
In my opinion, adding splenda to juice is actually a step backwards. I'm not worried about the natural sugar in fruit, it's the added artificial stuff that irritates me since I think fruit juice is plenty sweet on its own.
Answer:
My girls drink juice, but a lot of milk and water too.
