Ask:
things that don't seem "simple"?
When I explain to others that we are trying to live simply we often get questions about some of the thing we do that don't seem simple.
#1 Hanging clothes to dry
#2 having kids take cold lunch instead of hot at school
#3 using good old mop insted of swiffer....
Stuff like that.
Anyone else feel they have to defend a simple life?
Answer:
I think a lot of it is just not buying into the consumerism of a lot of the *new* stuff there is to make life "easier".. kwim? I've tried a lot of the "new stuff" and honestly, I don't care for most of it.. I find all the Swiffer stuff SO overpriced, and it doesn't do as good as a job as an old mop, or a soft rag for dusting, etc.. The price people pay for convience items (whether it be food, cleaning items, etc..) is outrageous I think. Not saying I don't buy *anything* for convenience, but I do refuse to buy every new gadget that comes out on the shelves trying to save me "time and effort".
I don't explain myself to anyone. I'm a grown-up now, so I get to do what I like. lol!

It's funny, but I often find the opposite. People often admire our simple life. They say things like "If I had more time ..." or "I wish we could live like you but ..." They seem to like the idea of it but making the change is harder for some. But I've never felt that I had to defend it in any way.
We've inspired some to make big changes in their lives but we never talk about it unless someone brings it up, which they usually do once they get to know us.
Are any of you finding that people are asking you questions or that you are having to defend yourself?

Cannins is much like this. Takes way more time than going to the grocery store and buying canned veggies, but it's priceless knowing I grew those green beans without the use of chemical fertizers, and knowing that I can preserve my own garden harvest.

When I decided to be a stay at home mom and we began living more simply, I feel in love. Why didn't I do this sooner? Anyway, I have had a few people question me where I feel I've had to defend myself. My response has been this is how we are choosing to live and we are very happy. This usually quiets them up. I've also had a few friends that are turely happy for me and the family. It could go either way, I've had both.

I know just what you're talkin' about....
my husbands Mother always looks at me like I sprouted a second head everytime I tell her about a load of stuff I got on sale with coupons...or when I lose my head for a second and suggest a money saving tip to her.......

On several accounts I have had girlfriends, family members, etc...tell me that they envy me, and "How do you do it? How can you possibly make it on one income?" Well, we do MORE than make it. People simply do not want to give up their 'luxeries' so they can quiet their lives and find peace. Now that my youngest dd is ready to start preschool this fall, I've got a gaggle of people questioning when I'm returning to work. I tell them...."I will remain at home until my children no longer need me" They look at me like I've just given them a sour candy or something. Yes folks, June Cleaver is alive and well today in some of us! Ok, well an upgraded version, but you know what I mean! I no longer defend my lifestyle, instead, I promote it!!
