Ask:
My dd received her 12 month vaccinations on Friday and has been running a temperature since. It even reached 103.7 a few times. She is not herself. I even took her to the doctor this morning and they said her body took it harder than most. Has anyone else had this happen to their baby?
Answer:
Yes, but not that high. Tylenol? Be sure to report if there's anything else in case of allergy.
Answer:
My older son ran a fever around 102 when he had his 1 year shots (but he tends to run high fevers anyway). Hope she feels better soon!
Answer:
Awww.. poor baby! My dd had a reaction to one of her first shots, her leg swelled up to twice it's size.. had to take her into ER... had some type of a reaction to it.
I find Tylenol doesn't help much with the fever and much prefer infants Motrin for fevers.. hope she's feeling better soon!
Answer:
My ds gets a fever for 3-4 days with every round of shots. He also gets them when he's teething. They get as high as 102 or 103 almost every time. As long as there's no other symptoms, he's still active, playing, and his eyes are not glassy, I've learned not to worry because it's just his body's way of dealing with stuff. I like Infant's Motrin best too, but I usually try not to use it unless ds is uncomfortable. (If it's just to make me feel better, I'm overmedicating him. ) A bath is always my first solution. It makes him happy, takes his mind off being sick and cranky, and it usually lowers his temp better than meds anyway. Never do a bath less than body temp though - a cool bath can do more harm than good. Just keep splashing warm water on the exposed skin, as it evaporates it will cool the fever.
Answer:
I would rotate the tylenol and motrin every 4 hours until its under control. Keep close eye on it and notify your dr. of any changes. to you and your dd!
I remember my oldest didn't take his one year shots as well as the rest.
Answer:
Thanks everyone! Her fever finally went away, but now she has developed a rash all over her body. Dr. said to give her Benadryl. She has all of the same symptoms as roseola. I'm trying to figure out if it's a coincidence that it happened during her shots or if it was her shots?

How interesting. 17 years ago, my oldest got his round of shots and developed a high fever and within days did come down with Roseolla.
I never put much thought into it up to now, but makes one wonder. It is always possible that catching any illness at around the same time is coincidence but it may not be.
I know when my 3 oldest were younger and I was in the Dr.'s office for check ups with any of them that I could guarrantee that my child would be sick within 2-3 days of walking out of that office. Why? The place was loaded with germ after germ, and my kids were germ magnets. On the plus side, now that they are all older, none of them really get sick anymore. Even colds are few and far between.
Now as for my youngest. (dd is 4) We had been getting her the flu shot since birth b/c it has been so bad the last few years and even though this is something that we don't get in this house, I wasn't taking any chances with her. And every year she got the shot, a few months later she would get the flu anyway. None of the rest of us would though. Interestingly, this year I said no to the flu shot for her and she did not get the flu, but the rest of us did. So go figure.
Hope your little angel is feeling better.
