Ask:
We have decided to put in an application for an autism school for our son. He is just not making progress like he should and with out this special school, I just can't see him being able to functioning in a "normal" school setting. It would mean a big change for our family. My husband would stay here and I think that me and the 2 boys would move in with my parents. Luckily my parents live in the same town as the school is in, so we could live there for free. It would be about 10 hours away from my husband though. But first we have to see if the insurance will pay for it and then we have to get on the waiting list. Wish us luck......-worried-
Answer:
This is a big step, and probably really needed for your son. Wishing you luck. But it would be a commitment of years. Is there any way your dh can find a job closer to your parents? This would work best as a family move, everyone doing what is needed. Hope you get in!
Answer:
I'll have to re-read the info...but the program is only for a year I think. From what I understand its a very intense program, most kids go to a "regular" school and then go there after school...If dh got a new job, the new insurance wouldn't cover our sons therapy. So we are kind of stuck. We will have to re-read all the info and see......
Answer:
Here's a thought - if dh were to get a new job to be w/you. You have COBRA to cover you under the current insurance until his new one would kick in, although you would have to cover the premium - but heck, w/the gas prices these days, it may even out!!!
Answer:
How wonderful for your son to be able to attend this school. Where is it? What is the name? What method do they follow?
I am also moving for a school for my son and we did a poll on who would move for better service. I think we all would if we could. It is a great chance to help your son get on target and be ready for mainstream.
I know it will be hard to move from your immediate family to your parents but it is temporary and chance to see things in a new light.
Please tell us more about the school?

I am still researching it, but it's in Rochester, MN. Its called the "Rochester School for Autism" I think they use ABA, but I'm not sure. I want to tour it next time we visit my parents. They have a website, I'm not real sure what it is right off the top of my head. The packet they sent us was mostly forms for us to fill out, not too much in the way of info about the school.
