organizing a linen closet

Ask:
Does anyone have any good ideas on how to organize a linen closet? I am always re-folding sheets, towels, etc, because whenever anyone needs them they just pull them out and then everything falls on the floor. I think one of my problems is that my shelves are not very deep. I though of buying some large, square baskets, but I don't think they would fit on my shelves. I'm sick of all the mess in my closet!

Organizedhome.com has some great tips and ideas for organizing rooms in your house.
We have a small linen closet inside our bathroom, really deep shelves (they go back far) but are not very tall for folded towels. So i roll our towels and stack them inside each shelf. Works good for us because the kids just grab a rolled towel and the others stay put. I fold the towels in half, length wise, and fold them again width wise and then pick an end and start rolling them.I hope that makes sense?
I use plastic baskets and trays to store items i don't use often and put them towards the back of the shelves. The dollar stores usually have a great assortment of that stuff.

When you fold your sheets, put your fitted and flat sheets inside the coordinating pillowcase - all of them won't unfold and go funky when you go to grab one. Also, I only keep 2 sets of sheets. When one is on the bed, the other is in the wash/closet. Also, how are you folding your towels? I have folded mine two different ways and one way fits better on my shelves than another. Maybe you just need a different way of folding your towels so they fit better. Make sure to put the fold to the front, so each towel is visibly separate and you don't grab an edge from another towel. Pare down your towels - you really only need one per person, and a couple extra for when some of them are in the wash. Having less to shove in the closet makes for more breathing room for the stuff that does go in there. Good luck - let me know if you need any other ideas. It's hard to think of solutions when I can't see the space, so forgive me if none of my ideas help or make sense.

I also separate the sheets in the closet so that all the sheets for the boys' room is in one area, the sheets for Wyndser's bed is on another shelf, and our sheets are on a separate shelf. That way I can grab what I want for whichever bed without messing with all the other sheets. I have a separate linen closet for towels and I have them separated so that the kids' towels are on the lowest shelf, regular towels are next up and guest/hand towels are on the top.
