Ask:
Anyone else not have video games, computer games, nintendo or game boys in your home?
I refuse to get them. I let my six year old play on the computer once in awhile and when it's time to get off....(45 minutes on) he loses it. He cries and he says it wasn't working and he didn't get enough time. He obsesses over it.
I could just see how it would be soooo difficult to get him off the games if they were in our home all the time.....when he would be off he would be thinking about playing and if he was told no he would be overly upset.
I feel bad that most kids probably have game boys and nintendo but for the sanity of my kid and family i say no.
Does anyone else have a child like this that obsesses over this type of thing?
Answer:
Evan has a Game Cube and yes at first he got a bit obsessive over it but once the novelty wore off he was fine with a 30 minute limit! Sometimes he will go a week without playing.
Answer:
We got Gameboys for them for Christmas, but they are very limited or they would play it like crazy. They do come in handy when I go to my WW meeting and such. I always swore I would never get them, but a friend, who does not allow games for her 11 year old, 7 year old and 3 year old, convinced me that they served a purpose in travel and such. She was right. . .
We won't get a game system though. I draw the line there. They do play some educational games on the computer though during naptime. (My dd doesn't yet.)
Answer:
We have a gameboy, gamecube and an old nintendo. But my kids also go wks without playing. My children both like the computer better than they do "games" like that. But they are fun like when my ds has friends over they'll go in the basement and play some sort of "boy" game on gamecube. But I don't really have any trouble making them get off them. I have more trouble getting mine to put down a BOOK to do something.
Answer:
We do not have any, nor will we. Occasionally dd (5) plays games on nickjr.com or the educational games on starfall.com. That's it though and she really doesn't have any interest otherwise.
Answer:
My son has a little OCD, part of his Aspergers, so we've avoided it. He has one, but really has no interest in it. He does go to Bionicle.com and Neopets, but it's more to create creatures. However, his therapist does think that as long as it's controlled, we should let him do it for his tracking issues and fine motor skills.
Answer:
My kids are obsessed with them. We have a gamecube, and the boys just got a gameboy to share (only because dh found it on clearnace for $48) DD has a ninetendo ds that she bought with her own money, but she does not play that often. My boys play alot of video and computer games. They have to stop when we tell them to, though. I guess it is okay though, because the all love to read, get excellent grades and are very active in sports!
Answer:
We have an XBox 360 but it's my husband's . My parents were very much anti video game systems so I grew up without them (although we did play computer games...I used to love to play Oregon Trail and Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego). My husband, on the other hand, once owned every video game system known to man. Our compromise is that he has one game system now and buys maybe one or two new games a year (usually Madden) for it. My 3 year old has played a bit with his Dad, but isn't really into it yet. My in-laws got him a V-Smile for Christmas when he was two (without me knowing - had I known, I would have objected) that he essentially does not play. So I guess it's not really an issue right now. I will allow it within reason. If it does become an issue when he gets older, we will have to deal with it then.
Answer:
Only Leapsters here.
Answer:
we only have the v-tech v-smile and we let them play learning games on the computer also.. my boys are more into acutal role playing than anything else they rarely even ask to watch tv anymore. they would rather just play or do an art activity so i'm all for that. so i have not hit to much resistance in this department yet. i also refuse to allow tv's in my kids bedrooms maybe when they become a teenager i will consider it. lol
