Ask:
What was your baby's first food?
The ped told me that I could try rice cereal with some breastmilk once DD is 5 months old.
Dr. Sears suggests smushed ripe banannas for breastfed babies. I am thinking of trying banannas because they seem to have more nutritional content than cereal. But I am going to wait until she is interested.
Edited: Dr. Sears suggests it because it tastes more like breastmilk and better to the breastfed baby.
Answer:
My dd's first food was cereal. I made it very runny and then each day made it a little thicker. You could try mixing a smashed banana with the cereal too.
Answer:
I went with the traditional rice cereal.
If you choose to go with banana, make sure it is very ripe and don't go overboard. Banana can constipate babies. Be even more carefull if you mix it with the rice cereal! Brat for diareah (sp) is Banana, rice,....
Both of my kids love banana, but I can only give it to them a few times a week.
Answer:
According to Super Baby Food by Ruth Yaron, good foods for babies starting at 4 months are: rice cereal (which I gave my first at 6 months), banana, avocado, and whole milk yogurt. I gave my second/third avocado at 6 months for their first food.

Do you have this book? I jus tlooked on Amazon at the description, it sounds really informative. I am trying to decide if I should buy it.
Answer:
I also did the rice cereal, it is easier on baby tummy, and less chance of a food allergy. I breast fed one and formula fed the other, one would latch the other wouldn't and could produce enough for two.
Then the controversy over fruits or veggies, if you start fruit first they won't like veggies. I'm sorry but green beans for breakfast didn't sound appealing to me, so I did fruit peaches, and both my kids love veggies to this day.
As for feeding at 4 months or waiting til 6 mos that truley depends on the baby, he/she will let you know when they are ready to move on to eating solid foods.
Answer:

Answer:
I started with rice cereal as well at 4 mos. One ate it like hes been eating from a spoon forever and well the other one had all of it all over his face. So what is the Super Baby Food book? I was looking for a good book to make baby food is that one or is that just a info book?
Answer:
I started rice cereal first, and it was like she'd eaten solids forever! We started at 4 months, because she was showing the signs of being ready. She could sit up really well with support, and she was watching everything we put in our mouths. After a couple weeks, we started her on baby food. We switched between fruits and veggies every few days. Like, we'd try bananas for a few days, then peas for a few days, then peaches, etc.
Answer:
I started dd with rice cereal mixed with bm at 5 1/2 months. It was mostly just for practice because we didn't even give it to her every day. Then we started her with avacado (mixed with bm) and banana.
Super Baby Food is an excellent book and a must have for every mom, IMO. It's worth every penny. It has great info about food in general, such as how to choose, store, and prepare every fruit and veggie, and what foods should be introduced at what ages. It also has great recipes for snacks and meals for your toddler. The recipes are even great for your whole family.
