Ask:
We did not, however, they picked some up off the Baby Einstein Video : Baby Wordsworth.
Have any of you taught your kids to sign?
Answer:
My 20 month old knows several signs, and my 3 year old learns right along. It's amazing how quickly they do it. My boys are late talkers and that toddler frustration when they know what they want, but don't have the words is really alleviated by the signing.
The little guy has known the signs for "More" & "All Done" since he was about 6 months old. I just use the sign each time I use the word and it is pretty automatic for the kids to pick it up.
We started with the Discovery Toys Package, and mostly just practice at meal time and bed time. Those are his favorite books, he is so proud of what he knows.
"Signing Time" is a great PBS show, and there are some very nice flashcards at signbabies.com
I am a big fan of teaching signs! Good Luck!
Answer:
They do catch on quick....it's pretty amazing.
kids are like sponges though, that is why I am hoping to even teach them another language at an early age too. I have seen how it can happen within eight months; a child going from mother tongue to bilingual. It happenned all the time at the International School where I worked.
Answer:
We did! My husband and I both read Baby Signs by Linda Acredolo and were so impressed with the long-term language development research as well as the short-term lack of communication frustration that we jumped right in! I am a Reading teacher so the research on language development and reading scores etc. really impressed me! Bryce knew over 60 signs by the time he was 18 months. He is now just over 2 and still uses the signs a bit but has almost completely transitioned to speaking. He has a HUGE vocabulary and speaks in full sentences- I think some of this is due to his early successes with communication through signing. Even though he rarely uses any of the sign now- he still remembers over 60! We also had the Discovery Toys bundle (I am a consultant) and it is based on the original work of Acredolo and Goodwyn. My husband thinks it is one of the smartest things we have ever done!
Answer:
We started when they were 4-6months or so. We did more, drink, and food.

I did signs with both my boys too. It helped so much to communicate what they wanted.
