Ask:
I ave been looking at ithings to help my dd keep up over the summer!! nothing that is too much but maybe 10-20 min a day of work!! on top of reading!! (after all she does need a break!! LOL)
our teacher reccomends GRASP program where you get the kit and then send it in and they grade it!! (she is in 1st grade rightnow)
What do you all do with yourkids over the summer
Answer:
When my kids were elementary age we did some of the "bridge" books. I forget the exact titles but it's something like "Bridging from 4th to 5th grade" for example. Most places including Borders, etc sold them. But I have to admit....I wasn't one for doing most of those kinds of things and usually ended up wasting my money...but maybe you're more disciplined. We just usually spent our time at the library, outside playing, museums, zoos, picnics, parks....stuff like that.
Answer:
Math has always been something I want the kinds to keep on top of, so we do 15 minutes of math facts, four/five days a week and it doesn't sound like much, but it makes a big difference. There are TONS of sites out there and programs you can buy...but two off the top of my head are:
I also encourage reading daily. My older son is a voracious reader but my younger son needs some nudging...I just make sure he's doing it.
Other than that, we didn't do any of those workbooks or anything...some folks are into those, we're not. Everybody is different.
Answer:
dd is a kindergartener right now. I bought 3 packets of sight words flash cards at Learning Ladder last month. They are all the words that cannot be sounded out and she just needs to memorize. We'll work on these over the summer.
