Ask:
Okay...Mom and I are having an Easter Cake contest....
I'm looking for some creative decorating ideas...here's some I've done before and seen done.
coconut tinted green for grass(the classic easter basket cake style)
I've also seen it tinted blue with raffia handle to look like a craft basket with a faux bird on it(sounds silly kinda but was SUPER cute)
cobble stone path made from pastel M&M's
tops of cupcakes(mini and reg)frosted to side of cake to make raised circles then decorated to look like flowers with green iciing stems and leaves(This is the idea I might do this year)
Blue tinted coconut on top with large chocolate duck on top(pond look)
one year my Mom lined peeps around the outside of a round cake and used tooth pick and little squares of paper glued to them(each peep looked like it was holding a flag with each kids name on it...kids loved it)
ok ladies.............any other cool ideas???????????
help me out....I gotta give my Mom a run for her money!!!

Have you ever used fondant? It's not so tasty, but is fun to play with to make some cute cakes! Or you could use candy clay, I'll dig up my recipe and post it for you, you can use it the same as fondant for modelling but it tastes much better!
If you are a little crafty you can use either like play-doh or clay and make figures to put on your cake, or even roll lots of little snakes and weave them to look like a basket around the sides of your cake. You could even make a handle for the cake, instead of using raffia or whatever. But bunnies and eggs and chicks, even some flowers, would be easy to mold out of candy clay or fondant.
And, hey, what's a little more sugar for the kids on easter?!
Posted recipe under desserts--here's a link to Wilton site w/ some directions on how to make stuff using the candy clay, scroll to the bottom of the page.
Wish you were closer or at least we had more time before Easter--I have a ton of Easter candy molds and all kinds of cake and candy toys, we could get together and do something really cool!

Have you ever made the cake in the shape of the Easter bunny? It's really easy. Just make two round cakes. One is the head and the other you make into two ears and a bow tie. It's hard to explain but basically you just make a cut for the ears on each side, which turn out to be long pointed ovals. The piece left in the middle in the bow tie.
I found a link to better explain it:

My mom always made these bunny cakes when we were little too! I was just feeling guilty the other day that I had never made my kids one. They're so cute.
