Ask:
I was wondering in hindsight if you had gestational diabetes do you think you had symptoms that were there but you did not know what was causing them. you know like certain cravings or always thirsty or sleeping badly.
Does this make sense? This pregnancy is so different I can not compare it to 8 years ago. I am sure most of it is just being pg but at the same time wondering. I have my test on Friday and will be discussing my issues with the dr then to see if he has any suggestions.
But I was just curious if looking back you said "I should have realized or that is why I felt like that"????
Answer:
I had symptoms, but it was my first pregnancy, and I thought everyone had those symptoms! I was very thirsty. I could drink water all day long, and never quench my thirst. I also gained 25 pounds from my 5th to 6th month of pregnancy. That is not normal! It was shortly after that they tested me and found out it was gestational diabetes. Good luck with your test on Friday. And if you have any questions, you can pm me. Hugs
Answer:
I had it with my first and I really think it was because I was eating ANYTHING and EVERYTHING I wanted. French fries for breakfast? GREAT! At 34 weeks I found out I had it, but I didn't have to be on insulin or anything like that. I was right on the 'line' and just had to change my diet.
Answer:
I had gestational diabetes with both of my pregnancies and I never had any symptoms before they diagnosed me. With my first pregnancy it was a total surprise since I had none of the 5-10 risk factors except family history. With my first pregnancy they tested me at 24 weeks (1 month early due to family history of diabetes) and I barely passed. They retested me at 28 weeks and I failed the sugar test. With my second pregnancy they tested me at 14 weeks since I had it with my first pregnancy. I failed the sugar test and was diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 16 weeks. I was diet controlled. The bad news was I couldn't eat anything "fun", had to limit my fruit/carb intake and had to check my blood sugar 4 times a day. The good news was both of my babies were born healthy with no side effects so far. I also didn't gain much weight, especially the second time around, and was able to get into my prepregnancy pants/some jeans 2/3 weeks after the pregnancy. Good luck with your test.
Answer:
I have it with my first pregnancy and had no signs , I didnt even have one of the risk factors. Yeah it sucks to have to watch what you eat so close but all it all not such a bad thing to eat better! My baby was born at 5lbs so I dont think it harmed her any.
Answer:
If you have gestational diabetes please make sure you are tested a few times after the baby is born. I have an aunt that developed full blown diabetes and needed insulin to stay healthy after her baby was born. It is rare but it does happen to some woman.
