We have a preschool at the church I attend. Alot of the parents are sending there three year olds and I was wondering what age are kids when they start preschool ?

I started my oldest in 4 Year old preschool at a church school. For the next one she is 3 now and could go to 3K but I am going to wait until 4K because they are just starting the public program were we are moving. I just don't want to spend the money for her to go to 3K even though it might benefit her with social skills. I think that if you feel they need more socialization that 3K is good for them because it is only for a couple of hours 2-3 days a week.

WEll my oldest went at 4 (she was soo NOT ready at 3 ! she would actually freek if you said the word school, she would literally start shaking)
my youngest started at 3! she soo needed it plus she needed sometime away from home as her big sis was at Kindy!!so she would end up bored!!
Every kid is so diff you need to base it on what your child and your family needs are!!

I have been wondering this same thing. I watch two other little girls pretty much everyday that are the same age as my girls and we attend many playgroups so I am not really to worried about them being sozialized. My thing is more getting away from me (and my being able to be away from them ) and getting use to a classroom setting.
Would waiting till they are 4 be ideal? I really don't know if we could afford 2 years.
I was thinking getting some preschool curriculum (I was a preschool teacher prebaby) and teaching them myself when they turn 3 and then send them at 4. Does this sound like a good plan or am I going about this all wrong?

My little one started asking about school a little after she turned 2. When she was about 2 years 3 months old I took her to a local preschool that starts kids at 2.5 if they are potty trained. While we were there I told her if she learned how to use the potty she could go...well it took her a whole 2 days to start using the potty everyday with almost no accidents and 2 months later she started school and has loved it since then.
It should be based on your kid's maturity level. Some are ready early and some need to wait.

She goes 2 mornings a week. next year at 4, she will go three mornings. the third morning, a friday, is just for the kids that are starting school the following year so they do special things to get them ready. i am so glad i started lexi at three, and will do the same with my other two.

Quentin started at 3 too. He only goes 2 days/week for 2 hours/day, so it is perfect for him. He really needed the socialization aspect of it, and it is great to see how he has changed from the parallel play at the beginning to now playing with his classmates. Next year he will be in 4-year-old kindergarten (run by the school district). It is basically preschool for 4 days/week, 3 hours/day. I will send Ian when he is 3 too.

The boys had birthdays that fell after the cut-off date, so they were 4 when they started. Wyndser's birthday falls before the cut-off, so she will be 3. She is already so excited about school that she walks around with her backpack everyday and asks if she is big enough yet. As a matter of fact, that is how I got her completely potty trained. I reminded her that she wouldn't be allowed to go to school if she still had accidents in her pants, and she broke herself that day.

My oldest started preschool @ 4 and she went all day 5 days a week. It was a really good thing for her & she learned a lot which has helped her now in kindergarten. The preschool starts w/3 year olds who are potty trained. DS who is 23 months is already on the waiting list, but I don't know if he will be ready for it at the age of 3. I think it depends on the child & what you are ready for. My daughter did great, and I have seen a lot of kids benefit from it.
