What should I be doing??

Ask:
Hello ladies,

I just joined this board and absolutely loving it. I am not a mommy yet, but hoping to be one soon
Me and my DH been married for almost 2 yrs now and since I am 33 we don't want to wait too long. Hopefully, in the next few months we'll start trying.
So, I would love to hear suggestions/advice/opinions on what should I be doing to prepare for pregnancy. I know, I know, women has done it for thousands of years, but...

I would really appreciate any help.

thanks much
Lena

Start taking a prenatal vitamin and eating healthy. The very early part of pregnancy is when the vitamins are so important so if you are actively trying taking the vitamins now is a great idea.

Try to cut down on things that won't be good for the baby. Like if you are a smoker or drink.

I know there are mixed feelings about buying baby stuff before you are pg. But its a personal choice. I figure if you find a great deal on something you are going to need later on you might as well save yourself the money and buy it now. If you have the space to store it. But that's just my opinion.

Also exercising is a great idea. Even after you get pregnant you are going to want to keep exercising. It will really help you to feel better. I try to get a good walk in every day and it really seems to help.

I agree with making a financial plan. Do you work now? Are you going to work after the baby and while you are pg? The earlier you start planning the more relaxed you will be. I still have 6 more months to go so dh and I are saving as much as we can (and paying off bills) now so when I stop working it will be that much easier on us.

BTW...you came to the right place if you are wanting to start trying. It seems like everyone on here has been popping up preggers lately! LOL

Good luck to you and welcome to the board.

Thank you ladies!!
I do work, but we would like for me to be SAHM. I am such a planner by natrue, but so many things are up in the air right now, so I am getting a little overwhelmed. First, my company is going through lay offs, and that sucks bc I was planning to stay here and get paid maternity leave. Also, my insurance is pretty good and I was relying on that too. So, the last thing I want to do right now is look for another job.
On top of that, we are in MD, but my DH is from New England and I promissed him that once we have our first baby, we can move. I wanted to have the baby here since my parents are here and I know the area and didn't want to go through pregnancy in a completly new environment.
As far as money, I am a huge saver, but I don't think we have saved. We are not goint to move until my DH get a job there, but still...
We eat pretty healthy (except for my chocolate, of course ) but I do need to start exercising...

Answer:

You should have your yearly physical and a regular physical. make sure you are up to date on any shots, find out if there is any testing your dr may want to do prepregnancy.

I agree with everyone else, do your best to make your world healthy. If there are a couple pounds your need to drop try now, if you don't exercise add some.

If you are a back or stomach sleeper you may want to start learning to sleep on your side. This is not easy but once you start showing or as the baby grows you will need it for comfort.
Answer:

Consciously enjoy your neat and tidy living space, take a few really long bubble baths, soak up all the peaceful and quiet moments you have especially on a day you wake up on your own with no alarm or reason to rush out of bed. I could go on and on but you get the picture I'm sure

Most importantly do all the things everyone here suggested to get your home and body ready for your new baby.

Relax and have fun

Folic Acid is also an important part of a baby's early development. This is something my Dr. perscribed for me when we were trying and also for the first few months of pregnancy.

Financial planning and exercising are probably the two most important things. I never bought anything for the baby... I was given everything I needed or wanted at showers and as hand-me-downs. Go out on lots of dates with DH! :-)

Oh, how I want to get in shape before getting pregnant, you have no idea. My mom didn't gain any weight when she was pregnant with me, but she is much much more active than I am.
So, I have to come with an action plan, oh joy
