Holy Cow!

Ask:
I have been down sizing before we move in 3 weeks and yesterday I tackled the clothes we all have. I literally bagged up 3 big black lawn type garbage bags with clothes that we never wear, or don't fit anymore (it was so full Dh nearly couldn't pick them up). I still have to go through the girls clothes and see what they can/can't wear anymore. As I'm going through them, the things we're keeping I am washing, the stuff I'm donating will get washed there (they wash it regardless if you have or not). I am just in disbelief over the amount of clothes we own. After I wash all the things I kept for us, I am going to go through it again and see if I can weed out at LEAST 5 more things a piece.

Last week I did this in the playroom and came up with 2lawn bags of nothing but TOYS that the kids NEVER touch. In the end, they still have 3 huge storage containers full of toys. That doesn't include the half a lawn bag full of broken ones!!

I can't wait to see this pay off, right now my house is turned upside down.
Answer:

I remember about 6 months ago watching Clean Sweep and hearing the guy who helps them weed out their crap say "for every piece you keep, get rid of two," and it hit me hard. I bagged up probably 5 or 6 garbage bags of just MY clothes, and another bag of DH's clothes. All of my clothes, with the exception of like 2 shirts and a pair of khaki pants, are from 10 years ago (seriously, I wore them in 8th grade and I've been out of school 6 years this summer) and do not fit or are worn out. Everytime I do laundry, I get rid of one or two more things. I realized the other day I barely have enough clothes to wear, and should stop getting rid of things, but I don't wear them because they're in terrible condition and don't fit right. So they just sit there messin' with my mind, letting me think I have all these clothes when I really don't. I think I'm forcing myself to get new clothes, as eventually I'll end up with an empty closet and dresser, and have to buy new pants so I don't go to church in the buff.

Wow- that is great!! Can you come do my house when you finish yours?? I am trying , but never seem to get much done (maybe if I'd get off the computer?? )
Answer:

Good for you! I went through this exercise after Christmas and freed up enough space in our basement to build a 6x12 foot office for my hubby! Can you imagine that in that space alone, I had been saving "junk".
That's only the start though. I've been tackling other spots too and slowly things are taking shape.

Congrats on your awesome efforts~!

Congratulations! It feels so good to purge! Now just write down somewhere how good it felt and when you get the urge to buy and or keep things again just re-read that!

Ok, great job for you, but now I feel old and fat! 8th grade was WAY more than 10 years ago and I'm probably double the size I was in 8th grade anyway!

Good for you! I did major decluttering in March and ot rid of a total of 42 bags/boxes of clothes/toys/books and I'm sure I undercounted. I also donated some large little tikes play kitchens.
